Blazing sighed and started coming down, not wanting to leave the spot he was in. He had no choice, seeing as they were supposed to regroup by the campfire. "Whoever said I had to follow the rules?" He asked himself. He shook his head and kept walking, deciding to just follow the rules for a little while longer.

@@, @@Nomadic,

Evergreen re-emerged from the brush back around the campfire, and assuming that those other two had been close behind her, trotted around the fire to where Ceres was sitting, with a pony she recognized from just earlier around the fire and one she had never seen before. The new colt looked rather earthy, having leaves caught in his mane. Realizing she'd been looking at him a bit longer than the other two, she looked away quickly, to Ceres, whom she actually knew.

"Hello again," she mumbled.

The flower behind Eve's ear, the crystalline rose, seemed puffed up in indignance.

Monkshood stared into the fire as it gracefully danced around. Thinking merely of his travels. As he began more and more lost in thought, a small triad of ponies emerged from the bush. Ceres piped up and began talking with them. "Ceres must have already met them, but with the way she acts she probably has already met everypony here", Monkshood speculated.

Turning around, Monkshood bore a disinterested look for the newly arrived ponies, yet listened intently at the conversation unfolding. "This is quite intriguing, the mossy-haired mare seems discouraged by the methods of Ceres. I should see how this ends before I add my commentary", he thought, yet his eyes began to wander towards the mossy-haired mare. He began staring at the delicate rose in her hair.

"Yes, and?"  Ceres cocked an eyebrow, clearly not fazed in the least.  "How many failures did you think I had to go through to get a success?  Advancing the growth of plants can lead to problems, but that will be a thing of the past when I finish my research.  I've already made great strides in that area.  The plants you see before you can last up to one year if left alone, where any other plant breeder can only make their own advanced growth plants last a maximum of a week."

Ceres sighed, rubbing her temples.  "I thought you would understand the beauty of advancing nature, but I suppose that I was wrong on that front."

Eve noticed that colt examining her rose out of the corner of her eye, and was privately thankful that there was so much dirt on her face - it obscured the fact that she was blushing faintly. No one would have been able to tell.

Eve nodded, as if thinking. "Will they stay as they are, or will they mutate due to the fact that they were forced to grow faster than is natural?" She sat, staring forlornly into the fire. "Advancing nature, you call it?" she asked. "Natural, is it? It looks more like cheap flower manufacturing to me." She looked away from the fire, and directly at Ceres. "I do care about nature. I do care about advancing nature. But I also care about the specific plants in my care, too, even the ones I bred myself. They're less volatile, and are consistently more potent if allowed to grow at their normal pace, and especially if prodded and encouraged to blossom with the soft touch of magic."

"What's the point of advancing nature through such blatantly artificial means?" She asked the fire, turning away from Ceres.

Ceres laid a few of the sticks on the ground and began to run a few of the stick ends over the fire, letting them char before blowing out the flames that lept up onto the sticks.

The petals of the rose seemed to shift, as if to seem slightly more friendly, as Eve looked around to see that rugged colt standing before her, having just spoken. She pulled it out from behind her ear - the Star Rose - and examined it fondly. "Crafted? Don't be silly. This rose is alive as any other flower. Taken from the breathing crystals in the Crystal Empire..." Her voice caught, and she contented herself by gazing at it fondly, and maybe a little sadly, as memories flooded back to her from when she had first received the flower... In her hooves, the petals closed, as if they were in sync with her emotions. She sighed, and placed it back in her mane, holding a thoughtful silence.
