Def Cello 3 September 15, 2013 Share September 15, 2013 Hello everypony! I'm new to this site so I'm not sure if this is the place to post partial works or if it should go in the resources forum, so please correct me if necessary. This is something I put together today and I'd love some input. I'm still getting accustomed to modern songwriting, so tips are appreciated. My DAW is REAPER and I used a Roland Fantom XR for all of the sounds in this. Again this is an incomplete work, but if I get some ears on it I may be more likely to actually finish something. ;;; Any feedback or ponifying suggestions are welcome! I hope you enjoy! Steel Matt 250 September 15, 2013 Share September 15, 2013 Welcome to the site! Before I head off to bed, I will see if I can analyze the song for you! Firstly, what is your inspiration for the song? The reason I ask is, you can have all the cool sound effects and instruments you want, but the overall theme and the inspiration is what will make or break a song. With that said, to the analysis! I think you are off to a good start! The beginning is just slightly repetitive. I would cut the first instrument/synth effect to 2 measures instead of 4. It gets into the song quicker. Also, there is a lot of clipping (this happens with electronic instruments a lot. If you were to play a note on a guitar, it reverberates. With electronic music, it cuts off really quick). Go ahead and experiment with a Reverb effect. Try adding the effect to different sounds, or the song as a whole. But doing it instrument by instrument and adjusting the settings might be best. You just want a slight carry over of those notes, almost like a concert hall! it's the best effect to use to make the instruments sound more natural to the ear IMO. Some of the sounds don't completely harmonize with one another (notes on top of one another) but you may have been going for a different sound! Just to get the song going, I would add some sort of bass instrument somewhere in the 15 to 30 second mark. The intro seems long. At 40 seconds in, is where I see the song begin to start. But the effects and instruments change again at 1 minute. I think 1 minute 15 seconds is where the song finally takes off, with the bass and melody. I would go for something more like this! In the end, you want to make sure you get the main melody and "feeling" of the song rather quickly. A 30 second intro or less is pretty standard with a song of this tempo. Also, the different sounds and constant changing of the melody (except for your main synth!) distracts from it just a little, almost like more of a sound effects demo as opposed to a song. Just crisp up the main melody and bring that out more, and you will be golden! I hope I was not too critical! Just trying to help out! I like where it is going. Keep us updated on it!

Guest DJ Hydrolicious September 15, 2013 Share September 15, 2013 I am honored you took so much time to analyze and provide feedback! Thank you! I will definitely consider your opinions in improving it! Nice, its a little high pitch and a bit repetitive. But overall its pretty good. But I think you should add a little more bass to the start, just to even it out.
