captainconfused 0 September 15, 2013 Share September 15, 2013 Alright just right off the bat, im not hating on this guy, the only reason I'm asking this here instead of sending him a direct message is because I'm pretty sure there is no way to ask this question without sounding rude... but again, thats not my intention. So anyway, I visit the r/mylittlepony subreddit pretty frequently and I keep noticing this guy who posts picture of himself with show staff, not like a usual fan, but at dinners and actual meetings with them. He calls himself a professional artist and voice actor, I assumed he must be a pretty big deal. But now, I've stumbled across his Deviant art page, and to my surprise, he only has 1,800 watchers, and past that, he links his voice acting experience to a youtube video that hasnt even broken 10k views.. So, why exactly is this guy in personal meetings with the show staff? On deviant art I follow a bunch of incredibly talented artists, some of which have litterally 10 times the amount of watchers that Draw ponies has, but they never mention anything about special community privliges. Does one of his parents work on the show? Is he just charismatic enough to get himself into these situations? Or is he possibley blowing his achievments out of proportion, like calling his couple youtube videos "professional voice acting experience" Thanks in advance for any info, and on the off chance that Draw Ponies for some reason reads this post, Congragulations on your community acheivments! /)
An Old Head 4,816 September 15, 2013 Share September 15, 2013 (edited) This thread appears to be related to the My Little Pony franchise and/or the Bronydom in general. Thus, it has been sentenced to Sugarcube Corner.Additionally, Draw Ponies is an artist that goes out to actual events and conventions to promote his artwork. That's why not much of it receives reception online - it's all done in physical reality. I myself picked up a poster of theirs at BUCK Con, where they were actually a Guest of Honour (to put that into perspective, Living Tombstone and Glaze were Guests of Honour). Draw Ponies is undoubtedly a very good artist, so much so in fact that I was keen enough to buy a whole poster from them due to its quality. Something I would never do considering I'm still shy on putting blind bag ponies on my mantelpiece Edited September 15, 2013 by Flipturn
FoxyCryptid 4,330 September 15, 2013 Share September 15, 2013 Can you link to some of his threads? You've peaked my interest on this guy(I had never heard of him because I usually avoid the chans and such) "You know, I don't know who or what you are Methos, and I know you don't want to hear this, but you did teach me something. You taught me that Life's about change, about learning to accept who you are, good or bad. And I thank you for that." -Duncan McLeod.
captainconfused 0 September 15, 2013 Author Share September 15, 2013 (edited) heres the most recent example that made me wonder who his was. This isnt the best example because it looks like a regular fan photo, but anyway, hes the blond guy with the voice of Flim: http://i.imgur.com/G32E5sy.jpg Allllso, on the subject of his art (Im not an artist at so i really should judge) but its reallly REALLY hard to for me to beleive that people would go for his style, not that is looks god awful, but I mean be so in love with it that he needs to have personal meetings with show staff?? to me at least it looks like the show style but just.... off by a little bit, like their eyes are too close together and all of their other features just get rounded. like this: http://drawponies.deviantart.com/art/Fluttershy-the-Pokemon-Trainer-359680730 And especially this one http://drawponies.deviantart.com/art/Classically-Beautiful-373104223 Octi just looks strange and disproportioned :/ so I guess more than who he is (obviously i know hes an artist) but why is that that someone who makes a pretty good copy of the shows style is getting into all sorts of community spots while artists like Spitfireart: http://spittfireart.deviantart.com/art/Octavia-376979012?q=favby%3ARainbro-Stache%2F54468724&qo=117 And FoxInShadow: http://foxinshadow.deviantart.com/art/EPIC-PONY-BATTLES-OF-HISTOOOORYYY-383544650?q=gallery%3AFoxInShadow%2F23890141&qo=60 Are taking these same characters, using their own style, creatings tons on online buzz, but dont get any of the special privligaes. (they both visit cons too btw) Edited September 15, 2013 by captainconfused
Nulln 755 September 15, 2013 Share September 15, 2013 I'm not a fan of his art. It's a little too rounded for me. But he's not a bad artist. Think of it this way, there's plenty of talented people on youtube, but Justin Beiber becomes famous. Sometimes it's just luck that gets you ahead in life.
Fhaolan 4,493 September 15, 2013 Share September 15, 2013 Flipturn basically answered this, but I'll try myself. Drawponies, like Living Tombstone, DustyKat, and several others were part of the first wave of Bronies who publicized themselves *as* Bronies. They were instrumental in linking together the various isolated fans into a community via publishing their videos, music, art, etc. and being brazen about it. This doesn't mean that their art/music/videos are better than anyone else's, just that these people were extroverts in the early days of the fandom and took the effort to go up to the show staff and introduce themselves when most other fans were too shy or frightened to do so. That's basically all it takes.
Winona the Dog 1,984 September 15, 2013 Share September 15, 2013 (edited) Well Drawponies as far as I know is a very professional artist. I watched one of his livestreams before and he really does show and tell. As for his popularity; I don't know how he is that popular. Some are just luckier than others I guess as there can be multiple factors that effect the outcome. Drawponies isn't the only person to get interaction between the staff. A lot of others do as well. Luximus 482 September 15, 2013 Share September 15, 2013 I actually have no idea who this guy is, but I can tell you one thing. If he's saying he's a great artist and a great voice actor, but then he doesn't have as many views/subcribers as you think, he's probably one of those kind of people who's looking for attention. He also may be looking for love of others, because he wants to show the world what he can do. If he's got great artwork, encourage him. If he is a great voice actor, encourage him. All he needs is love and attention from others. ...this is just an opinion. It's the best I could come up with.
