Why is there a castle in the Everfree Forest anyway?

The Elements of harmony book that you can get off of Amazon.com states that it was luna and celestias home before the everfree took it over after luna was banished to the moon.

Well then it's officially supported, now I just hope Hasbro allows the royal sisters to have parents thus explaining how it's because they are born alicorns that they are so long lived.

I have a theory on the forest itself. It's called the "Everfree" forest, and therefore I suspect I may not have been so wild and filled with monstrous creatures during Celestia and Luna's reign there. Instead, the path that led to it would have been nice and cleanly cut, with the forest surrounding the castle well trimmed. The forest became wild and dangerous after Celestia banished Luna.

I'm willing to bet that Canterlot was built on the site of the cave, the same cave that the founders of Equestria discovered the heart of Friendship...I think that this will be relevant in season 4.  any thoughts ?

 

An interesting headcanon :3 No matter what turns out to be true or false, seeing what little nods and continuations the show does or allows to be speculated about is always fun to see. S4 is certainly hyping up to be something promising.

The Everfree Forest is naturally chaotic so, it was very well likely the old throne and castle of Discord where he trolled the hell outta the ponies for centuries before being turned into stone. The Everfree Forest itself is the lingering and persisting byproduct of his chaotic influence.

The issue I've always had with that castle is that Luna must have lived in Canterlot and it must have existed prior to her exile since she talks about the Royal Canterlot voice in Luna Eclipsed. Unless Cantelot has a different meaning in that context. The obvious answer is that the writers messed up and produced a major plot hole, but the in universe answer might be that the castle was destroyed by some other force and not Luna.

According to the Season 4 animatic it appears as if it began to crumble when the all of her pent up jealousy caused Luna to transform into Nightmare Moon.

 

So, theoretically the structure probably couldn't hold against the strain of such a strong output of magical power.

 

And as ground zero for something so tragic and horrific to occur, Celestia probably wanted to just leave it be for being a reminder of growing up with Luna and her failure to save her, resulting in her banishment to the moon.

 

Of course, it's just a theory...but it's what I've concluded.
