Celestia stepping down?

Recommended Posts

After taking a look at another NMM theory, an idea just popped into my head. Guys, what are the chances that Celestia may be preparing to step down in Season 4? Maybe Luna was aware of this, but what she wasn't aware of was that Celestia would choose Twilight instead of her, as if Celestia didn't trust her enough to take up the reins after she retired. Furthermore, Celestia may tell Twilight, in the Season 4 opener, that she will take over after she retires, and after Luna initially believed this to be rumour, it is confirmed from the ponies mouth, and it makes her angry. And maybe, just maybe, Luna somehow suspected that Celestia favoured her student a bit too much, to the point where she got afraid Twi would get chosen over her...........anyway. back to the question.

What are the chances Celestia will step down in Season 4?

It could happen, but I'm not to sure about it happening as the season opener. Twilight has barley been a princes for a week. Twilight still needs a bit more training I think before Celestia steps down.

It's also hard to believe that Luna would go evil again over this. But who knows?

Well, I had that in mind. What are the chances Celestia would vacate the throne in the season finale? But this would require NMM to be evil for the length and breadth of the season, and that is something I'd love. NMM to not be reborn out of jealousy, but anger and outrage that Celly didn't trust her enough to rule after her. Of course, at this point in time, Twi's princesshood remains in its infancy, but surely come the finale, there are possibilities.

I am doubtful that things will follow Faust's original plan to have Twilight succeed Celestia as ruler of Equestria, and/or that Celestia leaves Equestria/retires.  Another thing I'm not convinced of is the return of Nightmare Moon.

This is just my speculation, so take it with a grain of salt.

The eclipse we see in the S4 trailer foreshadows something that happens every so often.  It is during this event that Celestia grows ill and won't come out of a comatose state.  Twilight wants to help her mentor out and Luna guides Twilight into her mentor's dreams to understand what is going on.  This is where viewers are shown the last moments that lead up to Luna turning into Nightmare Moon.

I'm led to this conclusion because the environment is different, mentioned by Twilight.  Also, Luna's speech tone doesn't seem to acknowledge Twilight.  It sounds like she is talking to another pony or perhaps Celestia.

I suppose that is a good alternate theory, but was Luna responsible for putting Celly in that comatose state you mentioned when she first became NMM?

And by the way, how can we be sure Luna was talking like she was talking to Celestia in this supposed flashback? What if she was indeed talking about Twilight?

In fact, something else has come to mind. Perhaps now that Twi is a princess, Celestia is readying her for the next step in her princesshood: the raising, maintenance and lowering of the stars. Stars do sparkle, and they do appear at twilight, which we know is the fancy word for "sunset", which, if two and two is put together, links completely to Twilight Sparkle! Now, in Luna's role as goddess of the night,  we all know that it's her job to raise the moon when the time is right. Perhaps she was also in charge of raising and maintaining the stars too?

The point here is that this could be the only reason why Luna mentions to Twilight something about her "precious light". Perhaps she doesn't like the idea of her responsibility over the stars being taken over by somepony else? (Then again, in terms of the princesses, that sounds like a pretty trivial and small thing to get upset over, I don't know! I just want to produce a possible reason for NMM returning, that's as solid as a rock)

That is plausible, but Twilight represents magic in the elements of harmony and it sounded like, imho, she is the Princess of Friendship the way Celestia acknowledged Twilight.  To give Twilight the ability to deal with stars would be a slippery slope for her character, from my view point.  It has the potential to taint the mare by turning her into a big mary sue.  With this little ascension, the writers will have to do a serious balancing act to make the purple pony's character and traits to the point it isn't "here comes Twilight to save the day" and Twilight saves the day with a wave of her horn.  A Canterlot Wedding was a good balance that showed Twilight's vulnerability where she saved the day, in a sense by finding the real Cadence, but it was Cadence that saved the day.

Of course, that Transformers: Beast Wars had Optimus Primal (sp?) going through that transmetal transformation, and, when he absorbed the spark/core of the first prime, he went through a second transformation.  Hasbro could demand the very same thing by having Twilight go through a 2nd ascension so they can sell a Twilight Sparkle, Ruler of Equestria, princess of magic, day, night, stars, and friendship toy.  If that happens, it will make the first turd storm around Twilight's first ascension look like a minor drizzle that lasted for a day.

Oh yeah, how could I forget THE BUCKING ELEMENT OF MAGIC!!!!!...........*sighs* Ok, alright. *recomposes self* So Celestia isn't prepping Twilight to raise the stars.......there goes yet another theory. Goddamn this insufferable confusion...

Well...

I wouldn't discount your theory just yet.  Celestia had Twilight stay in Ponyville in S1 to write Friendship letters and could be seen as the "Princess of Friendship" in that interim.  This was expanded in S2 where all of the mane6 continued to write letters to Celestia, with S3 being a tipping point where they were re-learning what they learned and conveying it to others; example of this would be Rainbow Dash telling Spitfire about the life of her friends not being worth the risk of brash behavior to fulfill her desires.

Things were ramped up in S3 to focus on "Twilight's Destiny" and such.  Though Equestria Daily posted up that info saying the comic writers have looked at the S4 script and she remains the same, they mention nothing of how S4 will play out.  She could ascend for a second time.  She could even become immortal.  After "misinterpreting" McCarthy's statement about Equestria Girls, I find myself trepidatious about things the writers say.  If you read between the lines about what McCarthy says in regards to Twilight's immortality, along the lines of "she won't outlive her friends," then it can be taken in several different ways.  One way it can be taken is Twilight "physically" outlives her friends, but she doesn't forget them/outlive their memories.  If the purple pony doesn't outlive their memories, it will be like they never died in the first place and they will be with her forever.

Celestia could very well train Twilight in "stronger" spells like she did in S3.  These spells will enable Twilight to move the sun, moon, stars, etc..., and the sun princess will find a replacement.  They might do something along the lines of the first Men In Black movie where Agent K said to Agent J, "I wasn't training a partner.  I was training a replacement."

In the end though, being cynical and depressing, it's however Hasbro wants it since they pay for the show.  They could very well decide Twilight is in need of a 2nd ascension, as said, and pull something from Optimus Primal by having her turn into a version of Celestia.  The end is Luna getting Angry about it because Twilight is taking over and Luna doesn't want Celestia to leave, Luna feels betrayed, or both + Luna doesn't want to leave.

This is just me, but S4 has quite a bit riding on it.  They need to re-establish that Twilight has flaws and isn't all powerful, that scene from Magic Duel where Twilight says she can't cast certain spells being reinforced though it's probably destroyed now since princesses are powerful.  They also need to show that Twilight's friends still carry weight and Twilight can't utilize the elements of Harmony by herself.  That is one of my biggest concerns where Twilight can now utilize the elements of harmony on her own and she just "trained" with her friends to figure out how to utilize them.  Her ultimate goal was to become the immortal and sole user of the elements, not to mention replacing Celestia as Ruler of Equestria + moving the sun, moon, and stars around.
