LED Dasher 228 October 21, 2013 Share October 21, 2013 In the episode "Sweet and Elite," Rarity considers herself a Canterlot pony at heart, despite being raised in Ponyville. Most would probably believe this episode was about social classes. I think of it in a different way. Rarity is basically a Unicorn pony in a village of Earth ponies. This situation is similar to what many people in the real world face. My parents are from India, and I was born in the United States. There are times when I felt like I was detached from the culture and beliefs of the country where my parents came from. Sometimes I felt like I belong in the country where my parents came from. In the episode, you can see the conflicts Rarity faces as she struggles to find her place in Equestria. She wants to fit in with Canterlot's Unicorn ponies, but also wants to be loyal to her friends and to where she came from. When you are born in a different country than your parents were born in, you face this type of issue. I have nothing against the people in the United States, but sometimes feel like I am out of place in the country that I was born and raised in. I hope I didn't offend anyone. I respect both India and the United States. I'm probably not the only one who faces this type of issue. What you think of my analysis?
Scootalove 10,692 October 21, 2013 Share October 21, 2013 I think your analysis makes me think about trying to fit somewhere out of your comfort zone, getting used to the different lifestyle, and trying to fit in somewhere where your not accustomed to. So, a unicorn being in an earth pony village could bring up those exact social problems. 1 Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
Nature's Spell 526 October 21, 2013 Share October 21, 2013 (edited) Although I appreciate how you relate your experience to the episode, and to a certain degree I agree with your analysis, I also think you're making too much of her being a unicorn. It had less to do with race and more to do with class, or I should say class perception by the Canterlot ponies and Rariry herself. Twilight is from Canterlot and likely comes from a well connected, or very lucky family, and is herself the prized pupil of the sovereign! Yet she is treated no differently than any of her friends by the elite of Canterlot. Even RarIty is at first seemingly embarrassed by her. So I think if has much more to do with class and status.
