Silverwisp the Bard 2,354 November 13, 2013 Share November 13, 2013 Oh, now here's something. Kinda has a Burton-ish vibe to it. I like it. Only (minor) point of criticism, would be that it doesn't seem to have a beak. My Art Thread, updated (almost) daily Tomorrow will take us away, far from home No one will ever know our names But the bard songs will remain. Fhaolan 4,494 November 13, 2013 Share November 13, 2013 http://voodoo-tiki.deviantart.com/art/Maredusa-sketch-289207240 Well i kind of don't get the difference between Cockatrices and Medusas... kind of sound the same to me only from different countries. Maybe it's my greek-ness ((i am from Greece yea)) that makes me like Medusas and Mare-Dusas more. don't know... There are several creatures that fall into this category. Gorgons (Medusa), Cockatrice, Basilisk, Colocolo, Catoblepas, and many others. Creatures that are so venomous they can turn you to stone via staring or breathing on you. Cockatrice, Basilisk, and Colocolo seem to be the same creature from different languages. The oldest version stating that they are the most venomous snakes ever, hatched from a rooster's egg, and *their* eggs hatch dragons. Catoblepas is some kind of super-wildebeest or gnu with armored scales. And Gorgons are nominally human with reptilian features (like snake hair). Most of this stuff comes from Pliny the Elder, a Roman who compiled one of the first ever encyclopedias. Most of the stuff in it has been confirmed as accurate as it details art, history, and technology of the time, but some of the creatures in the bestiary section are bizarre enough that it throws the rest of it into question.
