Favourite Shipping and Least Favourite

My issue with scratchtavia is we know nothing of their characters. I never got shipping when there is nothing to work with. I can see where we're coming from. The closest we have to personalities for them is Scratch' cheeky grin and Octavia has a very dignified composure in her few appearances. So yeah.. I can see where you're coming from. I just like more of a reason to believe they'd be a couple.

Canonically, we know nothing of these characters, except that Vinyl is a party pony, and Octavia is uptight. But the bronies have added so much more built on the little we know. Vinyl and Octavia might be shallow within canon, but within the community, they have very solidly built characters. Across the board, they are always depicted the same way. Vinyl is a celebrity musician and party animal. Octavia is sophisticated and uptight. Both of these stem from stereotypical archetypes of the Party Musician and the Classy Musician but fans have added so much more, and they do have pretty universal depictions within the fandom.

 

It isn't like Derpy, or Doctor Whooves who have no canon presence really. Octavia and Vinyl do have a simple base to build off of. Their brief appearances still managed to convey a small glimpse at who they are, based on what they were doing and the emotions they were expressing (it really shows the talent of the writers doesn't it? That such a solid image in fanon could be built off of something so small as Vinyl bobbing her head to the beats at a party, or Octavia pensively playing cello).

 

Many of the hints we have gotten point to a larger canon presence for Vinyl at least. And I don't doubt that, to be the masters of fanservice, the writers will try to use the accepted fanon for Vinyl's character, if she gets a role like we think she will.
