Hiya! I am not new to the "herd", but I am new to these forums, and wanted to partake in the camaraderie that the internet provides. 

BTW, anyone have a good suggestion for a free/cheap drawing program? I have heard of SAI, and was wondering if there were any more I should consider. My avatar is a freehand drawing (though the design was created in a pony generator for ease of use), and I was hoping to import it into a drawing program as a base, but I didn't know what to use (and I KNEW I didn't want to use paint!). 
I am currently a student attending college classes for a BA in Mathematics, so that explains my username. If you wanna know anything about my charming, suave personality or my world record holding physical build, feel free to ask! But you should know I am overwhelmingly humble and not at all sarcastic.

Welcome to the forums. I'm sure you'll have a great time here (at least I hope so )!

 

On the topic of a drawing program, you should check out GIMP, IMO it's the best free program. Of course it's not as good as photoshop, but it's still really useful.

Honestly I've used Photoshop for so long anything else I try feels like a real slog. But before I got Photoshop I used Jasc Paint Shop Pro (which also came with a great animation program). Not really sure if it's still around or free anymore though.

 

I've also heard good things about SAI and GIMP, but I just can't use them at all.

 

Anyways, hope you find the program that's right for you mate! And have a great time on the forums.

Judging by you're sense of humor and love of math I think we'd get along great.

 

As for the drawing program, I've heard a lot of good things about gimp. Personally I don't use it, I'm more of a pencil and paper kind of person.

 

If you have any art you want to show off I'd love to see it, or you can put it up in Octavia's and get some great praise/critique. I find it really helpful.

Eh... I use such programs like Gimp but that is mostly to mess around with pictures and I don't really draw a lot of stuff in that program so I sorry that I can't help you with that.

So many welcomes! I wanna respond to each one individually, but I would probably have to write a short essay at this rate. Thank you all so much.

I think I may try GIMP first (cause it is free) and see where that takes me. If it proves unmanageable, I will just ritualistically condemn the program to eternal deletion, followed by getting something like SAI.

And now that I have downloaded GIMP and ceremonially banished the stupid bloatware that accompanies it (Gandolf style), I can finally begin! Now...just need to learn these buttons...

My profile is my second attempt. My first attempt was scrapped cause it wasn't good enough IMO. If you use the 3 circle system as a base, you can probably draw the pony in almost any stance. I just followed the video and used a pony generator as a reference to design. I would stick with a generic stance (like my picture), and try to draw new ones after I perfect the old ones. (Next for me is a picture facing forward!) Eventually I hope to level enough to create my own design!
