Double Standards involving Flash Sentry

So I see a lot of people hate on Flash Sentry for being one dimentional.

However He has a much as character devolopment as Celestia, Cadence, Shining Armor, Soarin, Big Mac....etc

 

So How come all of those characters are allowed to be one Dimentional but Flash Isn't?

Because Flash Sentry was created for the purpose of giving Twilight a pointless love interest. And he was perfect and annoying.

 

Soarin' and Big Mac are to make you laugh, and Big Mac has the strong, silent brother thing going on.

 

Cadence and Shining Armor defeated freaking Chrysalis and helped defeat King Sombra.

 

Princess Celestia has had character development, it's just rather small, plus she can be pretty epic (Nightmare Moon flashback) and is a lovable character.

 

What did Flash Sentry do? 'Hey, Twilight, you just defeated a demon girl... Want to dance with me, Mr. Most Cliche Love Interest Ever?' Just... ugh.

 

Take that with what you will.

Flash Sentry's main purpose was just for Twilight to fall in love with as a love interest. Say what you will, Flash Sentry was just someone for Twilight to have an awkward relationship with.

Flash's status as a love interest caused people to judge him and his character by higher standards. Whether that's fair or not is certainly debatable, but none of the characters listed in the OP are among my favorites either. I will say that most of them have some kind of endearing, unique quality or have been given one by the fandom. Flash's main distinguishing quality is how Twilight reacts to him, which leaves him with little to set him apart from other characters in my mind.

Because he took our waifu, herp de derp. Joking and South Park references aside Flash Sentry while there are some fanboys that go into that protective "he stole my waifu" mode for better or for worse he was introduced as the typical cute boy for Twilight to fawn over which some people felt was a bit of a step backwards for the franchise. I personally wouldn't mind any of the mane 6 having a love interest as long as it is done right, but alot of people are concerned that it might not be and others feel it would simply be unnecessary. How Flash fits into this is if in the event he is ever introduced into the main series he will have to be more than just someone arbitrarily shoe horned in to get with Twilight in order to be respect as a character.

He is probably just there to add a little soap (short for soap opera drama, you know, love relationship complications and such) to the movie.
