SlightlyWinged 7 January 14, 2014 Share January 14, 2014 A story idea started forming in my mind, but before I can even begin to work on it more, I encountered a problem; a majority of the story takes place outside Equestria. All I have to go on it the official map of equestria, where it shows that griffins and dragons live to the east. Also the episode "Magic Duel" mentions Saddle Arabia, where horses are from. Besides that, I've got speculation and fanon. That the place where zebras come from is called Zebrica, that dragons live in a place called the Badlands. I don't read the comics or books, so any extra tidbits are helpful. The story will mostly take place where Zebras and Dragons dwell, and possibly Equestria. Fhaolan 4,483 January 14, 2014 Share January 14, 2014 There's a lot of stuff not on the 'official' map, which can confuse the issue. Trottingham isn't there, but it is mentioned in the show several times. If you count the comics, there's reference to Seaddle, which would probably sit next to or instead of Tall Tale. Outside of Equestria it gets even fuzzier. Gryphons have to come from somewhere, as do Minotaurs. Personally, I like the idea of a large island or two in the north east region, one of which is Felland (after the Fell pony) which has Trottingham and other similar towns. Nearby being a cloud region populated by pegasi called Air (after Eire, the actual Irish name for Ireland. Though I could be convinced on Shireland, I'm leaning towards Air.) But this is in no way canon.
Courageous Thunder Dash 7,824 January 14, 2014 Share January 14, 2014 The map does state that heading east would lead yonder to the Griffon Kingdom. But it doesn't say anything about minotaurs. I'm guessing there are surrounding islands in Equestria. Scootalove 10,689 January 14, 2014 Share January 14, 2014 I think there are many regions outside of Equestria since the show has mentioned many regions in Equestria, but I like the idea where we could see the regions outside of Equestria in an adventure aspect. SlightlyWinged 7 January 14, 2014 Author Share January 14, 2014 Hmm, so it seems most of it is up to interpretation. Personally I like the idea of Minotaurs coming from the Equestrian equivalent of Greece.
Solid 1,327 January 15, 2014 Share January 15, 2014 You may have to alter the entire map all together. Geographically speaking, Equestria is pretty much the entire world, as it contained everything from North Pole to deserts. The "here ye dragon/griffin" parts of the map just simply doesn't make sense. Assuming Equestria is a country, dragons would be living in places with temperature as low as -70 Celsius (which is pretty cold) and griffins would be living in places with temperature...well, at least 70 Celsius. This guess is due to arctic north being around -30 to -40 Celsius cold (here ye dragons is north of it 0_o) and the desert region around 30-40 Celsius (with here ye griffins to the south). So unless you alter the map somehow Equestria would be geographically contradicting itself. (I just assume that Equestria is the entire world, in my fic)
Fhaolan 4,483 January 15, 2014 Share January 15, 2014 Geographically speaking, Equestria is pretty much the entire world, as it contained everything from North Pole to deserts. So does North America. Heck, just Canada and the United States, you don't even need to include Mexico, which is what the canon map does. A good chunk of Canada is well within the Arctic Circle, and the United States has several full-sized deserts in it. Most of the pony-pun named cities like Vanhoover, Los Pegasus, Manehatten, Neighagra Falls, that all works with a bit of map warping to compress the distance between Manehatten, Fillydelphia and Baltimare. That puts the Dragons region as being wherever the Florida-equivalent peninsula points, like the Caribbean or maybe even Brazil, and Gryphons off towards Europe. Actually, the idea of a stereotypical Jamaican Dragon just tickles me for some reason.
zev_zev The outcast 415 January 15, 2014 Share January 15, 2014 (edited) In the last episode of the second season, Crysalis was flying away in which the barren land outside Equestria, because of shock wave. I would like to see those places. By the way: I think that this map is not very precise. If the ruins of the castle of the two sisters on the map so far from Ponyville this means that Equestria is very very small. Because in the series, it looks as though you to the ruins of the castle of the two sisters not more than half an hour way. P.S. Hm... is in Baltimare exist detective Mc Naulty? (Fans of the series "The Wire" will understand what I mean ) Edited January 15, 2014 by zev_zev

If the ruins of the castle of the two sisters on the map so far from Ponyville this means that the world MLP very very small. Because in the series, it looks as though you to the ruins of the castle of the two sisters not more than half an hour way. The map actually says right on it "Not to Scale". So it's as far off as hand-drawn maps from the 1500's. But in any case, it's the official map according to Hasbro and the pun-named towns are all from North America sitting in relatively correct places. The point is, North America includes all the terrain seen in the show for Equestria, therefore Equestria only needs to be as big as North America to satisfy the conditions with an Earth-like world. Which means there's a lot of world available outside of the Equestria to explore.
SlightlyWinged 7 January 15, 2014 Author Share January 15, 2014 I agree with Fhaolan that I've always envisioned Equestria as their equivalent of North America. I also assumed that since Griffons are to the east, they're British/English. Does explain Gustav and his accent, though it doesn't explain Gilda. Maybe Gilda grew up in Equestria? So many questions, it'd be nice if we got an episode where the Mane Six traveled to a different country.
Riddle 102 January 16, 2014 Share January 16, 2014 If Equestria is the size of north America i wonder what south America would look like and the kind of races you would have in those areas in also relations to the Maya/Aztec cultures a bit.... Also due to Luna and Tia raising and setting the sun, how might that play in inter-pony relations and all with the other nations and races given the over all view of things? Does that mean the sister Rule the World at all? (Sig made by Me)

Does that mean the sister Rule the World at all? Ahuizotl (from the episode Daring Don't) is based of an Aztec creature: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahuizotl_(creature) I, uh, know a lot about myths. Anyway, I imagine his species would originate from Equestria's version of South America. I've heard headcanons where Celestia and Luna don't actually raise the sun and moon, they rotate naturally, and that the other races know this. :okiedokielokie: And other headcanons about how once the sun and moon are lowered beyond the horizon, Celestia and Luna don't control it anymore. So many questions. -_-
