How Did Rarity Forget Spike Likes Her?

I honestly think the writers have no plan and so they flip flop between tropes.

 

But to address the the 'she's abusive remarks.'

No she isn't. She often reciprocates, shows great concern over his wellbeing, is protective of him yada yada. 

It's just acceptable to have Spike be a put upon male. No other reason.

I've felt weird about Spike and Rarity since Equestria girls. I felt like they compare Spike and Rarity with a dog towards a human. So I feel like in Equestria it might be seen that way dragon to pony.

Personality wise I think they'd be cool. But I feel like Spike is much younger than Rarity.

I don't think it's so much that she forgot, as much as it's she got too lost in her drama to have proper perspective. Which she is known to do from time to time.
