New Pony Model?

Is it just me, or is Hasbro trying out a new stallion pony model in the show?

First one I noticed was Cheese Sandwich, from Pinkie Pride.

Then again in "Simple Ways" was Trenderhoof

and the third one I seen was one of the Ponytones from this weeks episode,Filli Vanilli.

This new model is a little to skinny for me.

I think the new pony models are almost like an adaptation of Flim and Flam's style in their models, so I think I like them.

A little exaggerated at best...

Well, this model has been around since Flim and Flam...In Hearts and Hooves Day, we saw quite a few different pony models, even if they were for the gags, they do exist and thus could be used again....

I think the emphasis on tall and scrawny is to show that these males aren't physical workers, which makes sense especially for the unicorns (you know magic).  I can't see a pegasus doing well as a scrawny model since there is lot of muscle involved with flying (anatomically speaking in regards to a mythological horse)...

Attack of the (scrawny) Clones ;)

Ooh, ooh, I know! They're those Changelings in disguise Meghan McCarthy once twitted about! :D

Personally, I don't like this design, because they are too skinny, too tall in comparison with other ponies, and it makes them stand out too much from the other ponies and doesn't quite fit there. I had a similar thought when I watched "Dog and Pony Show" and saw those Diamond Dogs.  Their design is quite out-of-place there.

(But don't get me wrong, I only don't like these designs. The characters of Cheese Sandwich and Trenderhoof, on the other hoof, are neat and likable :squee:)

Hmm...  I noticed that they looked different (longer, less-slanted legs, it looks like to me), but I didn't think it was anything new.  Doesn't Mr. Cake also look like them?  I could be wrong, of course...

On a somewhat related note, I noticed something in "Filli Vanilli" that I've never seen before and found quite interesting.  The mare in the Pony Tones with the bejewelled hair was fat, yet her weight wasn't exaggerated or pointed out in any way.  She was just a normal, pretty pony who is a little bit heavier than most ponies.

The reason I found that interesting is because

1. I don't think I've ever seen a fat pony in MLP before

2. In cartoons, fat characters are usually either old or have their fat exaggerated in a way that makes little girls dislike them

3. This particular pony was actually attractive (and not just because of her sparkly hair) in a way that little girls could actually like her and see that there is nothing gross or ugly about fat people.

I liked her.
