FatalRain 108 March 27, 2014 Share March 27, 2014 This doesn't have to be just applied to the Mane 6, of course But a thought I've had for awhile is this, why is Applejack named Applejack instead of Applebuck? I mean, she always talks about apple bucking, and bucking seems to be her talent...so it just makes a little more sense to me (btw, I know there was an original pony named Applejack...so maybe they were trying to keep it somewhat like the original ponies?? ) Another name choice that I sort of felt iffy on was the names for the Cake's children Like, Pound cake makes sense, but then Pumpkin cake sort of seemed a little odd why didn't they go with something like...Angel cake or short cake? I dunno, it just seemed weird to choose a flavor for one kid and a type of cake for the other\ And the last name choice I really questioned was Sweetie Belle, especially because she's related to Rarity and her supposed talent is supposed to be singing So it's just sort of like...why Sweetie Belle? It just doesn't make sense with the character, in my opinion
Scootalove 10,689 March 27, 2014 Share March 27, 2014 I agree with the characters' names, though I sometimes question why they were given those names. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
That 80s Pony 62 March 27, 2014 Share March 27, 2014 Yes, I agree with their names! I honestly can't find any replacements. 1# G1 Fan
Ribbonfree 2,383 March 27, 2014 Share March 27, 2014 Because they wanted cutsie names that were easy to make memorable? That and Hasbro still has a lot of copyrights and stuff floating around on most of these characters in some form. That's why names are the same between generations, easier to make toys of character X when you own the rights to, after all.

I suppose, though Lauren Faust did change some of their designs and names quite a bit...so I dunno Applejack's actually one of the characters that's hardly changed at all through the generations haha
