Camp North Star (music from Champions of Norrath)

North Equestria, the only area in Equestria still untouched by the darkness that has engulfed most of the country. The camp serves as the main base of operations for the Royal Equestrian Military and a refugee camp. Situated deep within a valley, Camp North Star is one of the last bastions of light against the invading darkness.

 

Day 1

The night is quiet, cold winds blow down from the mountains into the camp. The torches flicker eerily as the winds rush past them. Two guards stand guard at the camp's entrance, their faces are straight but their courage is shaken. After enduring three grueling days of relentless attacks from the creatures of Tartarus, it is only a matter of time before they overwhelm the camp.

 

General Stone Wall, one the few senior officers that survived the fall of Canterlot, is pacing up and down a wooden stage in front of his command tent. The veteran has multiple scars all over his body and while he seems fine, the battle with a cyclops left him unable to fight. He walks with a noticeable limp.

 

"The Gates of Tartarus...who would've thought there's more than one throughout Equestria. It would take a very powerful individual to open the gates and my guards told me that all five gates opened at the same time? How is that even possible?" he asked his aide, Captain Star Wing of the Night Corps.

 

"Heck if I knew," the captain said. "One gate opening is barely noticeable but five opening at the same time releases a lot of evil energy. True, it does take a very powerful individual the likes of Princess Celestia to open one gate. I suspect that we're dealing with a group-coordinated action."

 

"So you're suggesting that we're dealing with a group? Hmm, whoever is behind this must have explicit knowledge regarding the secrets of the Gates of Tartarus."

 

The young captain heard some noises coming from outside the camp. He sees several ponies at the entrance and goes to greet them. The guards made attempts to block their way but after seeing Captain Star Wing, they move aside and let him pass.

 

"You have come a long way, strangers. Who are you all? Are you a refugee or a fighter?"

Dichromate dusted himself off. "I came from Ponyville. Barely made it out in time, too. Needless to say, it wasn't a pretty sight." He scuffed the ground, either in irritation, anger, or sadness. "But I'll help you guys fight if it comes to that. No time for chatting when heads are being ripped off, eh?"

CopperMane stood at the back of the group, when he noticed something out of the corner of his good eye. A large dark shape was approaching quickly. He looked forward where a orange pony was talking to another pony in the encampment. He stepped forward, "You know I don't want to be rude but I believe we have company." he pointed a hoof to the black mass speeding towards them.

"What're you talking about? Who's out th - "

 

Captain Star Wing stops mid sentence. From the darkness of the nearby forest, a large cyclops emerges with a big iron club in its hand. It is the same cyclops that General Stone Wall fought during the fall of Canterlot but failed to defeat. The burn wound that the general inflicted upon the creature was visible on its abdomen.

 

"The heck? That thing followed us here?! Guards, take it down!" Captain Star Wing shouted. "You, the pony from Ponyville, you wanna help?"

Dichromate frowned, his good nature replaced with seriousness. "Let's do this!" Closing his eyes, he launched a ball of fire at the cyclops that was closing in, aiming for its eye.

 

(Sorry I didn't make it more elaborate, I'm kinda rushing so I can finish my hw)

Lumi sends a bolt of lighting at the Cyclops and at the same time talking to the Captian "The names Lumi, I from Canterlot its hell down there barely got out before we were over run if you need me im in"

Darts flew into the air as the cyclops drew closer, "stand back everypony, and let a professional handle this!" he flew high into the air and turned down above the cyclops, he rocketed straight down so fast that only a blur could be seen, straight towards the single-eyed giant.

The attacks connects with the cyclops. The fireball Dichromate casted hit the cyclops in the eye while Lumi's lightning spell hit it in the chest. That coupled with Darts's physical attack knocked the cyclops to the ground. Before it could get up, the guards stab it in the head with their spears, killing it.

 

"A single cyclops is easy for a group of ponies to take down, especially when this one is wounded," Captain Star Wing said as he approach the body. "However, fighting the forces of darkness is no easy task."

 

He turns his attention towards the three newcomers and managed a weak smile.

 

"I'm happy to see that many have survived the onslaught. I was about to give up hope of seeing survivors from Canterlot and Ponyville. You three seem capable in fighting and I think the general will be interested in your capabilities. Please, come inside the camp, make yourself at home."

Darts trotted arrogantly up to the captain, "ahh you all totally should have left the beasty too me. I'd have taken him down in a heartbeat, nothing but a grease stain. Oh excuse my rudeness, my name is Darts, but you can call me Darts the magnificent. You've probably heard of me, ex-wonderbolt, record setter for highest altitude and most backwards somersaults and one of the top five greatest fliers in Equestria." he said in a cocky voice.

"And i also remember you were kicked out of the wonderbolts" Lumi said nudging him as she walks past into the camp

"Ahhh, they were just jealous." he humphed and turned away.

She grins " Yeah yeah of course"

The captain shook his head slowly.

 

"An ex-Wonderbolt is no different from a Wonderbolt," he said. "All are equally vulnerable to the darkness. Even if the Wonderbolts aren't the best fighters...heck, at least they're some of bravest and most foolhardy bunch of ponies I've known," Captain Star Wing remarked with a smile but it faded quickly. "Don't know what happened to them. I was hoping they made it out alive but...it's been five days already."

"Don't worry about it captain, you've got the best fighter right in front of, I ain't afraid of nothing!" He smiled cockily.

Dichromate rolled his eyes but stayed silent, he had other things to worry about besides getting into an argument.

CopperMane walked up to the group. "I don't know about any of you, but I just spent a whole day running from giants and other things I didn't believe existed, and I'm a little bit tired. So, if any of you would like to accompany me to the cabins I would be greatly appreciative," he growled in an annoyed tone.

"Ive just come from canterlot you think you had it bad...but i agree i am also tired so shall we?" She said motioning towards the gates

"Maybe I overestimated them," the captain thought bitterly.

 

"You say you're the best fighter, hm? Okay, how about this? My guards have located one of the Gates of Tartarus near an abandoned village not far from our position. As long as that gate is open, the creatures will threaten this camp and the rest of you," the captain turns to look at the other newcomers, "aren't gonna get a good night's sleep...or any peace for that matter."

 

He turns his attention back to Darts. "Not afraid? Well, I'm very sure General Stone Wall has a task for ponies like you. Titan, escort this ex-Wonderbolt to the general. Tell him we have a...capable volunteer." he called out to one of the guards. "The rest of you follow Titan if you think you wanna help close the gate. If not, head to the cabins and stay put."

Titan nodded and approached the group. "C'mon now. General won't like waiting." He rose his shield to his shoulder so it wouldn't get in the way of his movement and began to trot into the camp, towards the general's location. "Me name's Iron Shield, but just use Titan. Gone by it all me life, not changing now."

Sighs "I fought in Canterlot and failed there but here i can really help" she turns to follow titan

"Oh, for crying out loud. Thanks, Darts. Your big mouth might ensure we're all gonna die now," muttered Dichromate under his breath, but nonetheless he resignedly began following Titan, anxiously trying to remember the fire spells he had accumulated over the years.

Darts smiled, "finally, some more action!" he trotted off after Titan, boasting about all his skills to some other guards along the way.

Titan stopped, spun around, and stuck a hoof into Darts' mouth to silence him. "Stop saying what you can do and show us when we go take out the gate. No need for speech when you can show us." He pulled his hoof out and led them into the commander's tent.

Darts humphed and pouted a little but shut up all the same and followed Titan silently.

The group entered the tent and found General Stone Wall standing next to a table with a map of Equestria on it. He was discussing something with another pony, presumably his combat planner when he saw the group. He waves a hoof at them and beckoned them to come closer.

 

"We'll talk about this later," he said to his combat planner. Then he turned his attention towards the group. "So, who are they, Titan? Another group of adventurers seeking fame and glory or just another group of survivors?"
