Dattebayo 2,850 April 4, 2014 Share April 4, 2014 (edited) I've been doing a lot of thinking as to why I like sad art so...hell, my favorite group on dA is called #Sad-My-Little-Pony. So why? Why do I want to see these technicolor equines, who have done nothing but fill me up with warm fuzziness of the likes of which I've never experienced (no exaggeration), stooped to my level of profound sadness and pit-of-your-stomach gnawing despair? The answer I concluded on was this: I envy Equestria, the land of sentient colored horses. Think about it...your special talent in life, the one thing that makes you YOU...that's your job. Can you imagine anything more...happy? Really, truly happy? Ive been poor throughout my life...but in a perfect world...In an Equestrian world...I'd be a storyboard animator, or a concept artist, or anything pertaining to drawing...But I have to give up my talent to find a realistic job and earn dependable income. I can do my talent on the side, maybe do a bit of freelance work, but without the extravagant cost needed to get into a good art school or the right connections, I'm doomed to a life of corporate assimilation and identity stripping as my talent slowly withers away into an occasional time-waster. Sorry if that last bit sounded like stupid sh*t hipsters say. 'Twas fir a lack of a better word. So there you have it...something I've been pondering since my eyes first set upon sad pony art and I felt something radiate at the pit of my chest. Edit: ,I font want to LIVE in Equestria or anything, please don't misinterpret my thread y'all. I don't know if they are just a vocal minority but who know, you might get accused of being one -- directly or not -- and shamed without much remorse. In my eyes, Equestria is very utopian. I'm sure that's been explained to death.
Scootalove 10,692 April 4, 2014 Share April 4, 2014 I feel that people who want to go to Equestria, think of it as a way to escape reality and get away from the things that are troubling them. As an outlet, to get away from it at all. If you ask me, Equestria is far from an utopian society-like world. It's just..well...it all seems so great, not having to ditch your talent to survive on your own if you don't have the means. THAT'S why I draw sad pony art, I'm thinking. Because I'm a bit jealous and I want to subconsciously see them brought to my level.
