"Mmm?" she groaned questioningly, stirring slightly. It took her a few moments for her to start waking up, slowly opening her eyes and looking around sleepily. A minute or so later, as she shook off the hazy cloud of sleep from her mind, she remembered the reason why they were waking up this early. "The competition!" She sprang up half a foot, fluttering her wings excitedly, before she ended up landing clumsily back onto the bed face-first. "Mmph!"

"Careful there." Thunder stated as he picked up Ariel and set her on the floor. He then went to take a quick rinse off and was out three minutes later. He then brushed his teeth. "Your turn Ariel. Take a quick rinse-off, brush your teeth, comb your mane and meet us downstairs for breakfast." Thunder stated as he went downstairs.

Ariel shook her head, feeling mildly disoriented for a short while. She then headed into the bathroom and did as told - running into a little problem only as she went to try and comb her mane. The teeth of the comb got caught in her messy, tangled mane, and tried as she might to pull it through, the comb was hopelessly stuck. She eventually headed downstairs, the comb still dangling in her mane.

Rainbow noticed Ariel's mane. "Whoa...looks like somepony could use a comb. Let me help you." She said with a giggle as she flittered towards Ariel. She then gently picked her up and placed her on her lap. She then took the comb out of Ariel's mane and started to come Ariel's mane, cleaning it up.

Ariel looked up at Rainbow, looking sheepish for a few moments before Rainbow started combing her mane. She winced slightly as the comb was pulled through the tangles in her mane. And, almost as if it were a reflexive action, she closed her left eye as the comb swept across the bangs that usually kept it concealed, pulling them away from her face temporarily. There was very clearly nothing wrong with that eye - no injuries that called for her being so sensitive about it - but it still seemed as if she wanted to keep it hidden.

Rainbow soon finished. "There you go." She said letting Ariel get off her lap. Thunder had just put breakfast on the table. "Well...breakfast is ready." Thunder called out. Blitz and Storm came to the table. Rainbow decided to carry Ariel to the table and sit her down.

Ariel kept that left eye closed until she was set down at the table, after which she quickly swept her bangs back over the eye she wanted covered. Her usually scruffy mane at least seemed a lot neater now, but she had to have those bangs where they were. "Thank you, Rainbow," she said meekly, looking at her with the one amethyst eye that was always left visible.

"Your welcome. And you don't have to call me Rainbow. You could call me mommy or mom, whatever suits you." Rainbow said with a giggle blushing a little bit. Thunder was almost done with his food. He was a fast eater and usually ate quite a bit for breakfast.

"O-Okay, Mommy," Ariel said, giving Rainbow a little smile before turning her attention towards breakfast. She ate a little, but she seemed to not have that big of an appetite; perhaps it was that she wasn't very hungry for some reason, or that was the way she normally was, but either way she ate just enough to satisfy her, which wasn't much at all.

"Are you not hungry Ariel? You didn't eat anything all night." Thunder stated as he got up and went to put his plate on the sink. "Kay, here's the plan, I'm gonna head over to the Colosseum for sign ups. It's 9:00am right now. Y'all need to be there at 9:30 if you want to find great seats." Thunder stated as he was about to head out the door. "Got it!" Rainbow stated.

Ariel said nothing as she pushed her plate away from herself and hopped down from her seat at the table, indicating clearly that she didn't wish to eat anymore. In spite of not having eaten much, she seemed happy enough, putting on a smile as she waved goodbye to Thunder for now as he was leaving early, though she knew she and the others would be joining him at the Colosseum soon enough.

"I'll cover that up for ya." Blitz stated as he went to get a cover for Ariel's plate. Meanwhile Thunder had flown to the Colosseum and was able to sign up. Storm flew to the weather factory to make sure that Rain Dancer was in his place. She was right where she needed to be. He then came back.

Ariel trotted around, seemingly restless in her excitement about the competition as indicated by her fluttering wings, which seemed to almost always do that when she was happy or excited. She couldn't wait for the competition to begin, and she couldn't wait to see Thunder in action in this flight competition. She was certain that he was going to give a performance for everypony to remember, and nothing would convince her otherwise.

Soon, the three were ready. Rainbow gently picked up Ariel and put her on her back. Storm took the lead and headed out. Blitz took the back. They were all going at the steady pace. Meanwhile Thunder was in the back. The competition was made of mostly teenage pegasai.

Ariel held on gently to Rainbow as they all headed for the Colosseum. She spread her little wings out, both from the excitement she felt over getting to the competition and the still-lingering hope that her wings would someday be strong enough so she could fly alongside her family. She was anxious to get there; the excitement was clear on her face and her body language even though she didn't say a word.

Rainbow soon landed on a seat where the center of the Colosseum could be seen. It was 9:40am, twenty minutes until the competition began. "We've got a whole twenty minutes before the competition begins. Sometimes, the Wonderbolts give a pre-performance, but I don't think they'll be out today." Rainbow said.

Ariel looked around curiously, having never been to the Colosseum before. She could see that there were quite a number of ponies in attendance to watch the competition, which unnerved the little filly somewhat. She never did like large crowds. But, as long as she was here with her family, she supposed it would be fine.

Rainbow gently picked up Ariel and put her on her lap. She gave her fur a gentle stroke. Thunder was still in the back getting prepared for the competition. An official came out. "Fillies and gentlecolts, the flight competition for today will start in fifteen minutes." She said. A concessions pony was going around. "Get your popcorn! Get your snacks!" He called out.

Ariel smiled up at Rainbow, before her ears flicked hearing the announcement. She bounced lightly in Rainbow's lap, her wings fluttering in excitement again. Only fifteen minutes... she hardly knew if she could wait even that long, though she guessed she would have to. She largely ignored the concessions pony, not very hungry for any snacks; not that she'd have the courage to ask for anything herself anyway.

Soon, there was only five minutes remaining. The order had been decided. Thunder would go last since he was the oldest. A pony was walking around with Wonderbolt souvenirs. "Souvenirs!" He called out. Another call out was heard from the concessions pony.

Ariel looked over at the pony with the Wonderbolt souvenirs, if only out of curiosity. She eyed the merchandise as the pony walked past, trying to see what all he had. She wasn't too familiar with the Wonderbolts, but at the least she could tell that the merchandise indeed had some sort of theme in common.

Another concessions pony was walking with some snow cones. "Snow cones!" He shouted as he continued to walk down the rows. Suddenly the announcer pegasus appeared again. "Fillies and gentlecolts, only five minutes until the competition  Make sure you've got your seats!" She stated.

Ariel glanced at the snow cone pony, noting that there seemed to be quite a few ponies going around with concessions. Her ears then flicked up when she heard the announcer pegasus speak again, smiling when she heard the announcement. "Five minutes!" she echoed excitedly, her wings fluttering a little.

Thunder was in the back meditating, calming his mind before the competiton, ridding himself of all self-doubts. He could hear the calls of the ponies walking around with stuff in the audience. The judges had taken their places. Celestia had taken her place on the special throne seat made for her.

Ariel continued looking around, perking her ears as she took in the sight of all the ponies once more, her eyes widening when she noticed a particular guest among the audience. Princess Celestia! she thought, surprised to see the solar princess here.
