Redeye's Episode Reviews

So. Here we are, in what I think would be the most appropriate place to make a review superthread. I'll be covering all of my opinions and thoughts on every single episode of My Little Pony.

This thread will be constantly updated for each episode I review. So stay tuned.

I'll be organizing everything by season, then by episode. Starting off with season one.

I'll answer any questions and stuff when they come. So, without further ado, let's hop in.

SEASON ONE

S1E1&2: Friendship is Magic

Alright. Here we go.

So here we start off, with an introduction sequence. Not too bad. A good story development effort, to say the least. They actually gave this show some more plot than the girly nature of the previous generations, and that's why I like this. More depth equals more excitement for me.

We have our little villain conspiracy during the prophecy sequence, and are then introduced to our main character, Twilight. 'Bout your average geek, i'd say. In my opinion, Twilight made 4th place in my top 6 best main characters. We'll get to that later.

Apparently Twilight has this feeling that the world is in danger and she has to find a way to solve it. Okay, seems a bit cliche, but not unwelcome. We can see that Twi's extremely unsociable, and only enjoys studying more than spending time with others. We then come up to her home, the home where she lives alone with a dragon slave named Spike.

Spike would be your average servant of the spoiled main character. He has better scenes, but so far this little guy is just a filler character for comedic effect. Apparently, some prophecy tells of a supervillain that lives in the moon will come down and spread eternal night everywhere, ruining the 1000 year cycle of the dominant princess's reign. For some reason, common authors can predict when this character comes back and what happened to her. What a coincidence!

So, Twi decides to send her teacher, Celestia, a letter telling her about what's gonna happen and gets rejected 10 seconds later for reading too many books. Can't blame her, i'm not much of a bookworm myself.

So, we got a slow start so far. We're then treated to some exposition that the Summer Sun Celebration is taking place in a village named Ponyville. Twi's not too excited and wants to learn more about the Elements of Harmony or whatever. You see, this is why Twilight it 4th place, since she acts very spoiled sometimes and can be really unconvincing. I just don't like the way she acts sometimes, since she's so obsessed about everything else but what's extremely important in the very beginning.

So, her job is to check on the preparations of the said celebration, with a strange welcoming from a strange pony. Strange. Then we meet up with another important character, Applejack. And, she's just a southern stereotype. Just your average farm worker, nothing too interesting about her except for the fact that she has a huge-*** family. To me, he takes 5th place.

After getting mildly obese, Twilight goes to check on the weather. Nothing but clouds and such, and then we meet Rainbow Dash, probably the cocky equivalent to the Scout from Team Fortress 2. I have no idea of anyone else, but does anyone else but me think that RD is more "cuter" than "awesome"? Anyways, we get to see some of her personality, and i'd say I have nothing negative about her so far. She pretty much meets 20% of my personality today, so I put her in 2nd place.

After a bad hair day with RD, we move to the Town Hall for decoration check. It seems all fine and dandy until... oh no. Not one of these characters. I truly wasn't appealed to Rarity's character. I know, she had better scenes, but come on. I groan at this scene almost every time. She has many later scenes that just make me facepalm, and that's why she's my least favorite character. But I don't hate her. 6th place, as explained above.

Next up, Twi checks up on the music. Completely whistle-based music. All composed by Fluttershy. Gee, I wonder what personality she has... She's quiet enough to pretty much keep the birds from flying away in fear. I mean, that happens to me all the time, I step one inch closer to a squirrel and it runs away like i'm the Colossal Titan from Shingeki no Kyojin. Anyways, Flutters is basically me when I was, like, 6 years old. I still have around 20% of her personality with me. And you know what, there are so many things I have in common with her that she takes the cake as one of my favorite characters. 1st place, woohoo.

So Twilight finishes her job and decides to rest a bit at her rental home, which is a Library hidden inside a giant tree. They should probably remove that bee hive sitting on that one branch, you may have a bee infestation sooner or later. So we introduce or last character, Pinkie Pie. Oh geez, it's that strange pony from earlier. So Pinkie is basically that one person who has a huge optimistic personality up to the point where she's over zealously insane. But, you know what, her comedic persona kinda makes up 30% of my personality. She's basically the funniest character, and that's why I like her so much. 3rd place, respectively.

So, we've got the whole Top 6 covered. Now we get to continue with the story. Twilight, having her tongue melted by Hot Sauce Punch, decides to take a nap until midnight, when the celebration begins. When the time comes, everything seems to go in perfect order when, bam! Main villain appears and everything goes horribly wrong. Seems legit.

So, the main villain, Nightmare Moon, is the one who kidnapped Celestia and decided to throw perpetual night on us for the lols. No, seriously, she laughs hysterically because she's acting evil. Typical unoriginal villain. But every story needs at least one of these characters.

So, after the dilemma in the Town Hall, we skip to Twi trying to find a solution to the problem. The elements of harmony, of course, are the only answer, since they banished NM to the moon in the first place. Then the other five characters step in asking why this crap is going on. When they find the truth, they all join forces to try and find the elements of harmony together. They have to trace down the elements of Honesty, Kindness, Laughter, Generosity, Loyalty, and some other unknown one that everyone doesn't remember for some reason.

And so the only place where they could possibly find these elements are in the non-intimidating sounding Everfree Forest. Twilight tries to go solo but gets turned down by the others because they wanna help too.

We're introduced to a tale about the Forest which is obviously fake, and then the villain causes the cliff to break apart, which would be the cause of... actual deaths? But no, they wouldn't do that. Everyone stays alive, since this is supposed to be a PG show. But seriously, how many times in this show had the characters nearly dying horrible deaths from environmental accidents?

All thanks to Applejack's honesty, the girls make it in once peace. Next up comes a Greek Mythology ripoff, the Manticore. I prefer Norse mythology, but okay. So we get a fight scene. This was a kid's show? And we get another possible death scene. Again, this was a kid's show? But Fluttershy decides that nope, we're gonna tame this beast by removing a thorn from its paw. Convenient.

We're then brought to a deep part of the forest, after Flutter's kindness thing. We're then introduced to trees with faces. Creepy. But then Pinkie starts laughing at them explaining that having funny feelings make fear go away. Because the lesson that laughter penetrates fear is overused sometimes. So we get a... song... explaining all of this. Alright. I didn't like this first song. It was pointless, to say the least. At least we get better songs in the future.

Then we come across a Leviathan with a cut-off mustache, saying that it's the end of the world. Not sure why he couldn't just cut off the other part of his facial hair to make it even. So, Rarity decides to give up her tail in order to give him a new mustache that looks really off to me.

We're met up with a broken bridge after Rarity's generous act. Rainbow goes and repairs the bridge from the other side, since she can fly, and gets approached by these shady looking performers called the Shadow Bolts, the supposed Wonderbolts of the Everfree Forest. They give RD a bribe saying that she can join them if she ditches her friends. RD says no saying she can't leave her friends behind and repairs the bridge anyways. I wonder where this is going...

We finally get to the old castle of the alicorn sisters to find the statue of the elements of harmony. Twi decides that she should use magic to give a bunch of rocks some sparks. The others leave her alone since it was supposed important work, when Nightmare moon shows up and snatches her.

After a little confrontation sequence, we get what I guess is a fight scene, and Twilight then begins to unlock the power of the stones, only to realize that they don't work, and that they're fake. Not surprising. Then the other characters meet up after a quick search and Twi realizes that the elements come from abstract personalities and not solidified boulders. Then the last element is revealed, Magic.

...What does Magic have to do with friendship?

Anyways, the main villain tastes the rainbow and is defeated. Then we finally get to see Princess Celestia as she claims that she knew this was all going to happen. What a troll. And then we reveal that Nightmare Moon was Celestia's sister, Princess Luna. You know, the one that went criminally insane? So we get a reunion as Luna gives in and joins Celestia's side, a party is thrown, and Twilight decides that she wants to live in Ponyville permanently to stay with her new friends, which start up the Mane Six.

And, that's the Season 1 premiere. Was it good? Meh. It was an okay introduction to what was going to be the most famous TV show among the public. It wasn't a bad start. But, it was far from perfect. All I have to do is review everything else.

So, because of my reasons, I give this episode a 7/10. Can't wait to review some more next time.

Um redeye just a heads up this isn't why they have threads, that's what blogs are for

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it save equistria with its five candy coloured friends and shoot rainbows at bad guys using their necklaces and tiara unless you're celestia
