My Little Dashie - a positive alternate ending

I really feel like it would ruin the purpose of my little dashie. Which is to create brony tears via a "old yeller" style fan fic. It is meant to show how you can love something, but still have to give it up in the end because of how cold the world can be. Changing that really takes away the only impact the story had.

That is why its an alternate ending. Furthermore, many fans of My Little Dashie loved the story but were so effected personally by it that it actually made some depressed as some people have had similar things happen to them in real life although with real humans or prized possessions.

 

Even to those who had nothing similar happen to them in real life, bronies that feel what Celestia did was very out of character and did not look at what the negative consequences of her actions had. So fans made sequels that are negative like I mentioned before to point out how Celestia taking away Dashie for good destroyed the guys life.

 

But either way, much demand among the fandom who hated the ending got a more realistic in many peoples mind and positive alternate ending which help people cope with the depression after reading the original story.

 

So yeah, My Little Dashie was sad, but it really effected people personally basically demanding a positive ending and that's what they got along with sequels and other extensions to both the negative and positive endings.

The entire point of the story was to show that you often loose the things you love most. It was a point for point translation of old yeller, but with a MLP skin. The point of the story is to show that you don't always win. Often you loose, but you cannot let those defeats burry you. You must come to learn that the world is not fair, and that you will often loose the things you love, but you will always have the memory of those, and even though it is lost the lessons taught from it will stay with you. The whole point of the thing was to go "see, the world is cruel jimmy, the real world cares not for your small machinations, and it will take from you, but you must always remember the good, and carry onto the future".

I dunno, I loved the story, and I saw the animation, so it made it all more touching to me ;w; However, I do agree that Celestia was too out of character, cruel and clearly not thinking right. I think all the other ponies were. It's like if they didn't understand Dashie's and the guy's feelings about what was going on. I'm sure that at least Twilight would've talked to Celestia, or maybe Celestia would have allowed Dash to visit her dad. I dunno. I think that was the only thing that I didn't like about the story. But it is a very beautiful concept and a sad one at that. ;w;

 

I realize that the alternate ending is happier, but I prefer the original ending, maybe with the twist that Dashie can visit her dad at any time.

Yep, as we can see StormXF3 has had much demand to make a sequel. When I saw that he is thinking about making another video possibly I sent him a message on his YouTube channel pointing him to the alternate ending with the link. He has not gotten back to me but I hope he saw it. He gets a ton of messages I assume so I dont expect him to get back to me soon or at all for that matter. But if he saw it I really hope that he animates the happier ending so it can give the depressed bronies closure by the original story.

I was thinking of making a new thread on My Little Dashie, but I guess I'll just post here instead.

 

I've only been a brony for a few months.  I had to watch through the actual show first, so I've only just now gotten around to some of the fanfics and the like.  I watched My Little Dashie a couple days ago.

 

My reaction:

 

Heh, that's a little joke.  But seriously, I thought it was amazing.  Honestly, I thought that in many ways it was the most indescribably beautiful thing I've ever seen.  I've never actually seen Old Yeller.  I understand this is a similar story, so I'd probably love Old Yeller.  I should watch it.  Anyway, I'm not much in the tears dept.  It takes a really big catalyst for me to cry.  I've only cried a couple of times in my entire life outside of the little kid phase.  That said, I had tears running down my face by the end of MLD.  Not just misty eyed, but I'm talkin I had to get the kleenex before my tears started dripping off my face.  I loved it.  Absolutely loved it.

 

That said, in regard to this topic specifically, I think the original ending is perfect as is.  I think a happier ending would ruin the whole point.  I feel that the sad ending rings more true.  I think it had a more realistic feel.  Disregarding the impossible premise to begin with, I think that if this actually did happen, it would end like the original.  I identify very strongly with the protagonist, and the ending makes me feel more connection to him.  At the end, he's now back in the same situation as me.  I think that's an important aspect to the ending.  If he was able to go to Equestria, I feel like the audience would lose connection to him.  The original ending keeps the audience more grounded, keeps them feeling more like this is, or could be, reality.  But the ending is also hopeful.  It's sad, sure, but the protagonist has learned so much about life, love, and joy, that we can imagine that his life will continue to be good.  It's up to the reader/viewer to imagine where he will go from here, but I think most of us assume that he will take what he has learned and make the most of his life, and find new joy with other people.  This story will also ring very true for anyone who has lost a loved one and had to find a way to pick up the pieces and carry on.  These are lessons that we can use in our lives.  If he simply went to Equestria, then those lessons are lost.  The audience would be left in more of a disconnected haze, imo.  Sure, we could be happy for him.  It would be a feel good ending, but it wouldn't have the realistic poignancy, the impact on our own lives.  You wouldn't want FIM to have sad endings, but that was the whole point of this fanfic.  Sad, but hopeful, with lessons we can take away.

 

After watching MLD, I suddenly feel much less alone in the world.  It brings me a shred of happiness and peace to know that there is someone, many people, out there that feel the way I do.
