Magic Twinkle 204 April 21, 2014 Share April 21, 2014 (edited) Here's my view on the problem: MLP is a show INTENDED for little girls under middle school age. (like ? - 13.) And since it's intended for GIRLS ONLY, bronies gather a lot of hate, especially when the majority of them are 15 or older. Then again, I don't know why people would hate girls liking MLP in general. My sister is in her 20's and she likes everything about Disney, gathering all kinds of merch. But sadly, it's the world that is the problem. Its content at least, its cruel, close-minded people. People should be allowed to like what they want, but sadly, being a closet brony myself, I cannot be open about it. It's all about stereotypes. Another thing to point out is that I'm not a normal boy only into gaming, guns and cars, I'm also very childish, not only because of MLP. I like cuddly stuff and all that. In my opinion childiness is a good quality of a person, showing you can differ from the supposed stereotypes as well as implying you are loving what you are loving, not sticking on the common thoughts. Soulcrifice 21 April 21, 2014 Share April 21, 2014 Go play League of Legends and tell everyone you're a Brony. See how they take that bit of news, some don't mind but I've been focused and killed repeatedly simply because I've admitted to being a Brony. I think we all have our crosses to bear when it comes to liking this show, but in the end it seems like both guys and girls receive their share of hate from the world. The fact that the word "Brony" and variations there of only attest to how different this fandom from most. I don't see why they could have "brohoof" and "pegahoofed" as the ways of liking things, that way it'd even out.
FlitterFlutter 1,583 April 21, 2014 Share April 21, 2014 maybe because I am not a girl and I don't look for it but I don't see much hate on this sight at all. I mean compared to YouTube this is like haven. 1 Credit to Kiki
KarentheUnicorn 218 April 21, 2014 Share April 21, 2014 (edited) I couldn't care less if people call themselves "Bronies". I actually always thought it was kind of a cool name for male MLP fans, I just don't think that I or anybody else (male or female) should feel they have to be lumped into under the label. So, no, I don't wish to change it to a gender-neutral term. Just don't try to tell me I'm a 'Brony', and I'm fine. 'Brohoof', is different. Because I have to click "brohoof" to 'like' anybody's post. I feel the same way. I don't need the title to like MLP. And I don't feel the need that it's required for me to like MLP, it probably has a lot to do with liking it for so long that the term brony doesn't really give me any kind of personal connection. I'd also say it's largely a FIM male thing; maybe to define themselves as something different from the norm. Because there have always been guys who liked MLP, at least ever since I've been online there have been male collectors and fans of the show previous to FIM. Before FIM, nobody in MLP online community really called themselves any kind of group name. Even the males who liked MLP (and I'm talking about all around fans, toy collectors, show watchers, etc), we never had any kinda separation to define ourselves as either male or female MLP people. We were just ponypeople. And it was never a big deal before FIM. Edited April 21, 2014 by KarentheUnicorn
