I was surprised to become a fan of the show since I have a little sister who used to watch the older iterations of the show in the 80s/90s. Those were horrible and a little creepy too. I did a write up of how I came to be a brony on my web site. I won't post it here to force people to read it, but you can see the write-up on ninjamidget dot com, if you're interested. It's just a wordpress blog so don't expect anything flashy, but it's my place on the interwebs. Anyway, glad to be here and converse with fellow bronies.
