"End of the line sounds good." Golden said sadly. She had dropped the smile as soon as Tulip was hidden. "Remember what we said? How we've got to collect our stuff? We can do that when we get off at Ponyville." Holden told her and hoped that Cherry would understand.

"Ah, right, no problem. My house is a ways away." She said referring to her tree house on the other side of the forest, and worrying that her puppy would get into trouble, as she only asked her house sitter to watch her dog for as long as the invasion went down. "I left most of my stuff there, it'll be safe for a few months if we have to be out that long." She swung her legs thoughtfully, wincing as the numb feeling of the pain killers began to wear off, making her leg feel on fire once again. "But if you want to stop at your place on the way and get stuff we can. Just tell me when to get off the train, I'll follow." She shrugged, not letting herself mention were either of them lived. It was hard talking in cryptic code, but kind of fun. @,

Golden sighed in relief. Her ears flicked as she heard something move about the crates further inside. "Stay here ... I'll be right back." Golden cautioned and got off of the crate to check it out. She walked to where she thought she heard the sound. A tiny squeak was heard and then a mouse scurried out of it's hiding place. She just laughed to herself and walked back to Cherry. "Just a mouse." Golden said.

Cherry raised her eyebrow, "You don't think somepony is following us do you? I mean, ever since we were in the storm you seemed to be hearing these noises." She tapped her aching leg and said quietly to the surrounding room, "if somepony is trailing us, be prepared to get your head impaled." She growled. Then she smiled and sat up straight, "I feel better, sometimes you just have to tell off your paranoia right?" She asked cheerfully. "But seriously," she continued in a sing-song voice, "if anything has followed us, I will eat it."

Golden giggled slightly at that. "I just don't know  Think it's my ears playing tricks on me again." Golden answered cheerfully. She moved her legs and found hem to be having pins and needles. "How long until the train gets here?" Golden asked Cherry. She seemed anxious to get on the train.

Cherry looked at the clock, it was nearly midnight, eleven fifty five, "Five minutes to go." She said to Golden, just loud enough for Tulip to hear. Cherry dug a bit of currency out of her bag and handed it to Golden Flames, "Here, you should buy some tickets, buy a third one in case our friend shows up by then."

 

Ever so slightly she tilted her head toward Tulip, hoping to get across the idea that the third ticket was for the filly. They would need it if the conductor on the train came around asking for tickets, and Cherry didn't want to hide Tulip the entire ride, just until she could blend together with the other passengers of the train without suspicion. @,

Golden took the bits in her mouth and walked to the pony from before. She put the bits on the counter and asked him, "Do we have to pay for tickets?"

 

"Yes ma'am. You have to pay for the tickets even if the train carries cargo as well as passengers." The pony sighed. He counted the correct bits from the pile. "You looking for two tickets?" He asked her.

 

"Three, in case our friend comes along in time." Golden told him. He nodded and gave her the tickets. She grabbed the spare bits, walked back to Cherry and the hiding filly and handed a couple of tickets to Cherry for her and Tulip while keeping one for herself. She also gave Cherry the spare bits back.

She was startled by the guard's approach, looked to Tempest for reassurance, then nodded back to the guard and followed him all the way up to the throne room, where surprisingly it looked like finally Celestia and Luna were finally having meetings with them. Despite she was an alicorn, she felt low ranked as it was, let alone worthy of being in their presence... She bowed to them like any other pony would and raised her head again, sitting down to await to hear what they had to say.

 

"Your Highnesses..." she nodded her head to them again as she sat down.

Cherry nodded and took the money back from Golden before hearing in the distance the whistle of the train. She pulled her blanket tight around her head and smiled, turned away from the stallion at the desk she Whispered to golden, "That's our train, just tell me when to ditch and head to your house, K?" @,

Golden nodded. "Yup. I'll do that." Golden whispered back. She got some of the bags and put them on her back along with her blanket. Seeing that the train has just oulled in, they walked calmly to it and headed to the passenger part. A ticket collector held out his hoof.

 

"Tickets please." He asked politley. Golden gave himhers and waited for Cherry to do the same with her and and Tulip's.

Cherry hid Tulip until the group got outside, still in the storming night. When they were out of view Cherry let tulip down and walked up to the conductor, she no longer had a blanket draped over her head, instead she gave it to the filly, noting that any child from the crystal empire would be on Sombras list of ponies to round up, so it was probably better that no pony was able to identify Tulip as a foal from the empire. She handed over the tickets and moved onto one of the seating compartments with her friends. There was a handful of other ponies there, most all of them obviously refugees from the empire, as they were toting crying children and had a look of terror in their eyes. Cherry sighed, these poor ponies were the product of what she had thought was right. Their sudden hardship was her fault. She steadied herself and looked to Golden to see if she was feeling the same guilt as her. @,

Golden looked at the terrified ponies when she laid down on the couch with her legs tucked under her. She looked at Cherry with sadness in her eyes and didn't bother saying a thing. Golden laid her head in her hooves and closed her eyes, trying not to cry in front of Tulip and Cherry.

Tulip peaked from beneath the blanket and felt a surge of joy when she saw one of the crying foals. "I know them!" She whispered to miss Cherry and miss Golden, pointing at the young filly and an older mare sitting nearby, "That's Maia and her sister Electra! Can I go say hi?" She batted her big eyelashes at the two mares.

Golden opened her eyes to see where Tulip was pointing. She saw the ponies and cringed for some unknown reason. "Go on. But only for a little while." Golden managed to smile and watched her go talk with her friends before looking back at Cherry. "We helped cause all this. Now I'm just feeling guilty." Golden whispered to her before closing her eyes again. She felt some tears roll down her face as she started silently crying.

Tulip hugged Electra and the two began to play, running around the train in a game of tag and laughing like crazy.

 

Electra's older sister watched with worry, she didn't want her little sis to spill any information on where they were going. Obviously Tulip was here with somepony, such a young filly wouldn't be able to sneak onto the midnight express alone like this. But she didn't push for answers on the matter, lest she risk Tulip asking questions. Instead she just watched the two fillies chasing each other around, knowing that this would probably be the last time the two friends played together.

 

Cherry drew in a breath and patted Flames on the back, "ya, I know what you mean." She sighed, guilt in her gut and pain ever present on her face. "Do you think it was worth it at least?" She asked. @,

"Is what worth it? Sombra coming back? Sombra taking over? I used to think so before we encountered Tulip." Golden said sadly. She shifted a bit and felt one of the bandages around her barrel come loose. Luckily she was still holding the blanket around her.

Cherry drew a breath and said this next line with deadly seriousness, fearing of the reaction she would get, and further what the consequences would be for herself and for everypony around her. "Well, if we want to stop the fighting...stop the war, we can. It would be dangerous and stupid and could gt both of us killed. And the only thing keeping us safe would be the public niceness of a corrupt government but...we could do it." @,

"What do you mean? If we can stop the war we can? If we are going to do it then how?" Golden asked her morosely. She opened her eyes and looked out the window to see snowfall falling down at an alarming rate as the train sped towards it's first stop, Trottingham. She felt an exposed cut rub up against the blanket and sshe tried not to gasp in pain. She managed not to but she doesn't know what state her bandages are in, nor the scars.

Cherry glanced worriedly at Golden Flames before saying, "Think about it, uhg I feel awful for even saying this but, we have inside information on not only Sombra's castle, but circle members, what they're all capable of, where they live, and how they fight. That information is invaluable to the defeat of any enemy. If we were to appeal to the Princesses, maybe even take jobs as informants or double agents, than well..." She trailed off, more guilt for different reasons nearly overtaking her. @,

"Don't plague me with anymore guilt than I already have, Blossom. We'll talk about it when get to our two sisters house." Golden muttered. She turned her head to look at Tulip and managed to give her a samll smile before looking out the window and gazing at the passing scenery.

Tempest nodded slightly, and followed Lightning and the guard. "Something isn't right." He thought to himself. The bat pony then shrugged the notion off.

 

Celestia nooded slightly, and smiled. "It's good to see you, Lightning. I apologize for not talking to you earlier." She said. "As for why I brought you here now, could you tell us the situation in the Crystal empire?"

She blushed with fear and looked to Tempest for some sort of advice...but knowing all too well what had happend at the empire, sighed and turned to face them. She stood up, holding her head up.

 

"The Crystal Empire...has fallen your Highnesses..." she stomped her hoof as she spoke, "King Sombra sent his darkest forces...the Empire was caught off guard...Even as we speak the Empire is being over taken by soldiers...And...dark followers. They are enslaving those who do not fight...and slaugher those that try to run or fight...What are my orders?"

Cherry nodded and muttered a soft apology. Maybe just sitting in silence would be better than discussing the option of treason. She watched the two fillies run around in their little game of tag, then, out of the blue, Tulip zipped across the train and wrapped Golden in a gentle hug, so not to hurt her, yelling as she did, "Grownups are base! You can't tag me!" @,

Golden just raised an eyebrow. "Grown ups are base? What are you playing with your friend? A game of tag?" Golden whispered to Tulip. Tulip just nodded happily. Golden smiled at her and waited for the filly to let go and start playing before looking out the window.

"That's no fair!" Electra pouted at Tulip. "We didn't say grownups were base!"

 

"We didn't need to, it was impide." Tulip said victoriously.

 

Electra narrowed her eyes, "Fine den, do you know what else was implied? Only 5 seconds at a base. Soooo," She looked at her imaginary watch, "Tag you're it!" She tagged Tulip and ran off to her sister. "Base!"

 

"You're sisters not a gwownup!" Tulip yelled running off to catch her friend.

 

"Is tooo"

 

"Is not!"

 

"Fine then," She jumped over to somepony else sitting on the train, "Base! One two three four five," She jumped over to the next adult, "base!" This went on and Electra sister gave a soft laugh and came to sit by Golden, "Sorry about that." She said, "My little sis was just having fun. Are you here with Tulip?" @,
