I rewatched this episode yesterday and it's a mess just like Somepony to Watch Over Me. *sighs*

Mr. Sonneborn is pretty good at comedy and is decent at worldbuilding, but he's botched up every story he put in place so far, and has the characters be portrayed as somewhat idiotic (but not exactly OOC) from time to time. I really hope he gets his act together, because after rewatching it I can honestly say I was entertained by it. It's like playing a really good mod, it crashes and glitches in spots, but you can't help but like it, too.

The episode gets a "MEH" from me, just like his past work.

"Oh look, there's our friend Rarity GOING DOWN IN FLAMES!!! ISN"T FRIENDSHIP MAGIC!!!?" -Tabitha St. Germain as Rarity

"No matter how many times others tell you you're great, all the praise in the world means nothing if you don't feel it inside.......Sometimes to feel good about yourself, you gotta let go of the past. That way, when the time comes to let your greatness fly, you'll be able to light up the whole sky." -Cathy Weseluck as Spike

I agree with what you said in another post about having all of the Mane Six in so many episodes. There is only 22 minutes, so to me with so many of S4 episodes it often feels as if the story gets cut in many places just for the sake of showing them all when really IMO the main focus of a story should just be one or two pony's in the spot light, MAX! With others only appearing more for cameos if that makes any sense. If they had a full 44 minutes per episode I could easily see them being able to use them all, but 22 minutes is way to short. While I do like many of the S4 episodes a good chunk of the time while watching one that has them all I just think "Why not just focus on aspect x of this part of the story and flesh it out rather than shoe-horn the other mane 6?".

Seriously, had this JUST been a RD/FS episode I think it could have been fleshed out much better.

Ya, all it's doing is dragging down the episodes as a whole. This type of fandom pandering, if that's what it is and most likely that's the case, is seriously harmful to the show. I've really disliked this season because it's had illogical writing and mostly just been mediocre. Like, most of the episodes lately have just been average at best, nothing special about them whatsoever, stuff just happens is a good way to describe it. I know some people will say that the old episodes were the same, but know, they were definitely better, I wouldn't have become such a fan of the show if I didn't honestly enjoy what I watched back then. Sure, not all of them were good, but for the most part, I enjoyed what I watched.

But if it was like the majority of this season, I can safely say I wouldn't have given the show a second look, I think most bronies would feel the same.

<--- There be Brony!

***Fear the Hater, for they are out to taint your Perfection. Buck the Troll, for he would seek to stop the Fabulous flavor. For you are Brony, coated in Pearl, maned in fine Mulberry, eyes of the sky, and flanks of Diamonds. Your life is for the Lady, all hail the Queen, for Rarity, your life, for her.*** -Applejock

There were a ton of flaws in this episode, but the one that bugs me the most is that there is no attempt to make the three subplots related except for an ad-hoc explanation at the end.

That and the imbalance of screen time for each plot, and Twilight's (kinda) sour grapes in not giving up her books.
