Masterful witticisms on the internet going unappreciated is like trying to say "you're beautiful" to each and every whisp from a dandelion.

Everyone is making them and in grotesque abundance, because they think that if something is sufficiently funny, it is sufficient to be explained in a manner that doesn't waste other people's time.

 

No one cares though because even thinking of that or reading it also takes too much time.

Sometimes I feel like very few people understand my jokes. In fact, I have a 96% confidence level that there is an 80% probability that my humour has degraded by 15-20% since taking stats. Universities are factories for jokes that almost nobody else appreciates...

This is very true about comedy in general, most people are content with jokes that require no thought, will likely be forgotten in a few days, and often only serve to feed egos. Where as a truly good joke is something that is still funny potentially for all time. When Seth Macfarlane hosted the Oscars a year ago the funniest skit was probably this bit:

However, it saddens me to think that in all likelihood most of the Television (and guests at the Oscars itself) audience probably didn't get it .
