Characters for Equestrian Empire.

I realize the Equestrian Empire roleplay forums are less than a year old, but there is something that needs to be expanded in it, namely, the number of approved characters. Currently, there are only about 100, which makes getting players for RPs pretty difficult ( and usually limited to Cast Characters who need to fill quotas ).

 

Conversely, the original roleplay section has Celestia knows how many characters. I have also seen, more than once, characters turned down for RPs in EQE not because they would be a bad fit, but because they were unapproved.

 

A quick look through the original RP section, however, shows a large number of characters who would fit right in as EQE approved characters with very minor modifications to them (usually swapping out a specific age like "23" for a generic one like "young adult").

 

I propose, either concurrently with the moving of the RP forums to the new site or shortly thereafter, that some of the RP staff go through the character lists looking for characters that are already almost perfect, and contacting the user that created them, suggest whatever minor changes are needed, and then offering to help get them through the approval process so that we can boost the numbers of available players for new RPs, the number of people who could start EQE roleplays, and their overall RP experience on the forum and/or the new site.

 

Yes, I realize this is going to be quite the task to go through them all, and yes, I absolutely volunteer to help in this!

There are currently some issues with the Equestrian Empire, I agree, but they are currently being worked on, particularly with the new RP site in the works.

I'm not sure how you mean turned down. There are currently a lot of characters in the queue. If you notice, all but one have comments on them from the staff. Most have been abandoned by the creator. If you are speaking about characters that apply for RPs specific to that area, but don't have an approved character, they all receive messages from the EQE staff stating if they want to join, all they would need is an approved character. However most people are unwilling to read the rules. I'm not saying this is always the case, because it isn't, but the regular RP section is a lot easier to jump right in to.

I read every character that applies. Every. Single. One. It usually takes me 15-30 minutes to make sure the character fits within cannon. Now multiply that by the number of characters in the normal RP database. I've been doing this since December of last year. I can name maybe four that didn't require change of some sort. I then read it again, just to make 100% sure the character fits. If you look at the approved characters versus the number of them that are actually used, that number is minuscule. Would more people join if there were already more people active? Probably. However it's a catch 22 at that point.

 

Right now there is a team of people working on the new site. Once it opens we'd love to have more people in EQE. Hell, we'd love them now, but also remember that this is a completely volunteer position, just like every other one on the site. We're doing the best we can with our limited resources. The EQE staff also is working on the new website. We have lives of our own, some of us students, some work full time. If you really want to help, there is a team of people working on lore for the new site. Said team has open positions.
