Thoughts on my OC

You might have noticed my OC is my new avatar.  I'm going to be using him for my YouTube account as well as some fanfics.

 

Race: Pegasus

Occupation: Prince

Hometown: Breezia

Abilities: He has somehow been able to preform weather based magic and is looking into why that is.  Could it be the magic of the Breezies mixing with his own?

Personality: Intelligent and generous with gifts and advice, but he is quote arrogant and tends to whine when things aren't going his way.

Backstory: Orphaned before he even became a yearling, his mother died after leaving him to the Breezies.  The queen took a shine to him and convinced her husband to adopt him.  He has spent very little time among pony-kind and Equestria.

 

What do you think of him?

First thought had to do with the golden ear, which I mistook as a golden horn or something until I looked at it a second or two longer. Almost tripped my aversion to alicorn OC's. After that, I can't help note the body structure is still akin to Luna or Fleur Dis Lee--is it her artistic style (for example, I always use two-toned wings), or does he simply possess a body more like an alicorn rather than a common pony?

 

After that... I'll do some pros/cons.

 

Opinion-based pros:

+ I personally like the coloration, minus the ear (even if I like the color chosen, it just seems... unnecessary?), as  said coloration seems to have one dominant direction (cool) with a slight contrast to lesser amounts of lighter/warmer. Though, you probably want to seek out someone who knows color theory for an opinion, as I get a slightly wierd feeling about dark blue + strong teal.

+ I enjoy that he has admitable, realistic flaws

+ Could be a pretty interesting OC, overall

 

Opinion-based cons:

- Special OC is special; adopted by royalty, and learns weather magic other pony's have not yet been able to use by the looks of it due to their special circumstances? Just... feels a bit much to me

- Orphaned by parents death... it seems a bit unrealistic to me in the MLP universe; yes, it could happen easily enough, but did he really have no other family that would take him in? Surely his mother would have parents/siblings, family friends, or something. It just seems odd that instead of going that route, he would be offered to the breezies. ...Which, from what I gather, don't have huge relations with ponykind--after all, you say he's living with the breezies and has had little contact with ponies/Equestria, which leads me to believe ponies here would in return have little contact with breezies, too little to form a close enough bond to throw a child at them over their own kind?
