Ignoring his comment, I made sure everyone was present when we arrived in the cave, when that was true I was relieved. I looked at Twilight "So do you know about how far are we away from the Empire?" As I waited for the answer, My mind and heat clashed yet again forcing me to have to yet again stop the thoughts.

The four made it into the cave and Aaron sat down with Fluttershy as Twilight would set up tents so they could rest and use a fabric to insulate them. Once she was done, she looked to John. "Well, if my calculations are correct, we are close. But seeing things in this storm is beyond me at this point."

"Well its good that we are close to the Empire, but how do we get in? I don't think we can walk in and bribe some guards if our heads are worth more then the bribe." I said not wanting to go without a plan. I looked over at Aaron, "How is fluttershy doing?" I asked him.

"Well. She's still in a catatonic state and has yet to speak. But, I leave her bowls of soup at night and when I wake up, the bowl is empty. So, its safe to say she's eating. As for her child, I don't know much of that." Twilight looked up at him. "Is that why I smell tomato soup at night? I thought I was losing my mind." "Nope. Just leaving her food. It's either her eating it, you've been sleep eating, or an animal has been sneaking into our tents to eat the soup."

"At It seems she is eating then that's good, I just hope her condition gets better." I said solemnly, as I tried to calm the storm that was my emotions. Anger, Rage,Hatred,Sadness,Fury, Happiness, and even Love. Due to these conflicting emotions I could not just clear them but only bury them for a time till they resurfaced  and I would repeat the process until such time that I could deal with them

Twilight grabbed another one of the green containers and drank it down. With that done, she set some deadwood found in the cave alight, allowing Aaron to melt some of the ice and boil it for some stew for them. He had little ingredients, including potatoes and carrots. He really wished he had some meat to throw in. A world of vegetarians is not the place to find quality meat.

I took off the winter clothes leaving me in jeans and a tee shirt and set them near the fire to dry for the next day.Out of boredom I got a decent look at myself, and noticed I was much more toned then I was when I started this trip, and I trimmed some of the fat I gathered during college off as well. I turned to the boiling water and seeing Aaron I knew he wished we had some meat. I did as well, I questioned why we were not suffering from protein deficiency, but I decided to blame magic.

Aaron passed the bowls to everyone and had a slightly larger one to spoon feed Fluttershy and some for himself. Twilight took inventory on the green vials she still had and went to eating her food. "So, how is everyone holding up? Twilight asked as she sipped her soup.

I ate some of my soup, "So far I'm doing well enough, for the weather outside, just drying my wet winter clothes, so how about you two?" I redirected the question to Aaron and Twilight, I myself not having much to say about the matter.I picked up another spoon full of the soup and ate it waiting for their response.

Twilight looked over to John, giving a shrug. "I'm doing fine. My magic supply is halfway depleted, but I can be much worse." Aaron was next to respond. "I'm doing fine. I love cold weather but my only complaint is something else to eat rather than stew. What I would do for some pasta right about now." Aaron's mouth began to drool at the thought of some good Italian food. "But its fine, I can hold off for a long while."

I looked at Twilight "That brings another question, what are those green flasks you drink before you use magic and why were you bleeding that one time after you teleported us away?" I said wanting to fill a few curiosities that were floating around in my head since she first drank the liquid.

Twilight finished her stew before she began to explain. "They are my per-*belch*, excuse me. They are my offensive and defensive flasks of synthetic magic. I drink one and I am able to use one spell, two if I'm lucky depending on the amount or amount of effort required to use the spell itself. The reason my nose bled was because of the distance I teleported. It was not enough magic to bring us to that distance and it put a strain on my body to get us out of the city limits by that much. In fact, this is the stuff I used to summon you two. Then again, I had to use about two, maybe three gallons to do so."

Okay last questions, what are the big differences between synthetic and natural magic, and why would Tirek take away magic and leave synthetic magic available for use? From a logical stand point it seems stupid unless your race absolutely depends on magic then he could use it to keep you guys from being totally forced to be more inventive.

"Natural magic flows from the very essence of a pony, giving them talents and abilities. Synthetic magic is half as strong as natural magic as so nopony can oppose his forces easily and so he can take what little we have. We're dependent on magic and he knows this. And so, he uses the stuff to help his supporters profit off of the substance. The resistance has been trying to find away to mass produce it, but as far as I know, they have not succeeded yet."

"This leads to another question what dose magic let you ponies do besides spells that forces you to depend on it so much? Because the way i see it, no offence, but it dose not seem good to depend on one source of power and hope it dose not fail you.

 

Sure humans are that way to a degree with fossil fuels like oil and natural gas, but we still are looking into alternate methods to create electricity but most of the ways we have to make it to power things on a mass scale is limited and can run out. There are a few ways of making electricity that are practically unlimited or harder to exhaust but they are in beta stages.

 

But anyway I think you get my point. Again I mean no insult to you or your species." I finally finished my long winded question slash explanation

"Its not just used for spells. Earth ponies use it to cultivate food. Without it, they couldn't even grow weeds. It also gives them great strength. As for pegasi, it helps them to fly and stay on clouds. Their wings are too small and their bodies to heavy to lift into the air alone. Plus, they also control the weather. Otherwise it just goes out of control." Aaron took all that in. Looking to Fluttershy, he did notice a pair of wings on her. They were too small to fly, so he figured they were for something else. "I know it seems inefficient to rely on it, but cut us some slack. We've been using it for thousands of years and just recently, we had it taken away."

"Like I said I mean no offence and its not like humans have not made that mistake, hell it took a while before we were like oh shit fossil fuel is awesome but not inexhaustible. Sometimes things need to hit us with a brick before we realize them."

 

"Damn if the human race as a whole met the ponies there is so much good that could happen once both races especially humans don't think there is a knife hidden in the deal. Sure there would be conflict, but overall I believe both ponies and humans could benefit heavily from the sharing of technologies."

"Hm. I guess that's why the book considered your kind the most dangerous species in existence then." Fluttershy's ears twitched at the comment but still no reaction. twilight stood up and picked up Fluttershy and went off to bed. "We need rest. We're close to the Crystal Empire. G'night." With that she went back into her tent."G'night Twilight." Aaron drank the remaining broth and went to his tent.

"Goodnight Twilight." I replied back before going to Aaron and I's tent and laying down thinking a message for Nightmare saying "Nightmare if you ever want company at night you can come to my dream any time you please." With that I went to sleep for the past two nights my dreams were normal and nothing special. 

 

This one started out differently, I was in a library with Twilight sorting books out at the end of the day, after the job was done  Twilight walked up to me her hips swaying back and forth, I smiled and Twilight and I locked lips. A minute later Everything faded and A knife was sticking from multiple bodies, the buildings on fire around me, and I stood over them and laughed, maliciously the body of Tirek  sliding down the pile the bodies of Aaron, Twilight, Nightmare Moon and Fluttershy the easiest to see. 

 

There that voice was again, "You dare try and escape your DESTINY?!!"

 

My mind was locked up from the dream turned Nightmare and I could not wake up. It was not until a long minute later that I found myself in the emptiness that was Nightmare Moos domain. (I will continue tomarrow)

As soon as he found himself in the void, he soon felt the sensation of gravity. He was falling in empty space in an utter weightlessness. With a hard thump, he soon found himself in a peculiar area. It was not some medical meeting area, or a hellish wasteland, but a nightclub. The place was playing seventies disco music as silhouettes of human's danced to the beat. And there in the middle of it all was Nightmare Moon. A smile on her face. "Ah, John. So good to see you. Come, let us dance. Your kind's music is most fascinating."

I smiled at her happy tone, so much different from the time I last visited her in my dreams. So I complied and danced with her, just doing a improvised dance made on the spot due to my lack of experience in dancing. "Thanks for the complement." I smiled even more while dancing with Nightmare Moon.

The two danced to the sound of the music for what seemed like hours. Nightmare pulling him over to a booth where she let out a sigh. "I must say, your kind's music is much more fun than that of what I know. So, how goes your quest?" She snapped her fingers as an appletini appeared in her hand, sipping the contents.

"That was just disco there are many other genres that could be named along with branch offs of each." I commented  "Anyway we made a diversion to a place called Crystal Empire to confirm if her brother and her sister in law were dead or alive, apparently it has been eating at her for a while not knowing either for certain, and it could harm us all one day so I decided for better or worse that we should find out and here we are, in a winter wasteland  about a twelve hour walk ahead of us."

 

I tried to mentally think up a glass of water appearing in my hand but to my disappointment nothing happened.

Nightmare's eyes opened in surprise and sat her drink down with a sigh. "The Crystal Empire. I'm going to guess telling you not to go there is futile, so I have nothing to say really.' She waved her hands as his desired glass of water was now sitting on the table before him. "So, what about the newest member of your group. Miss Fluttershy if I remember correctly."

"She is still in a empty state of mind probably a mental defense mechanism to keep what bit of sanity she has intact. She also is pregnant with a bastard child of some stallion. Personally I fear seeing me kill the young guard did not help either. But fortunately she is eating."
