(I'm going to assume we are just waking up.)

 

I woke up my eye sight blurred, looking to my right I saw Twilight sleeping soundly, and Aaron was in a similar state. I sit up and notice a mare that was not there when we fell asleep, "Who the hell are you?" I ask my hand on the hilt of my hunting knife. My heart beat speeding up and some other signs of the fight or flight response being ready to trigger

[Mr. Critical 434]

The woman in the car slowly looked back to John. Her eyes were a shade of green with a cats eye pupil. Her hair was aetherical and waved with in an invisible wind. Her coat was as black as night itself. Her finger went up to her lips, asking him to be quiet. "You'll wake the children." Her voice was soft yet she spoke with authority. She snapped her fingers as a plate of eggs, sausage, bacon and coffee materialized onto the table she sat at. "Come. Let us talk. Alone." The woman had a presence to her. Something about her that was far bigger than anything Aaron or John could comprehend but her smile was so inviting. As if a mother was smiling at her child.

I nodded and followed very careful not to wake anyone up. Looking at this mysterious mares eyes I felt power and awe. Shaking my self out of the trance, I sat at the table. "Okay what do you need me for?" I questioned trying to keep my voice down, and not wake up the others and these kids she was speaking of.

[Mr. Critical 434]

The black mare let out a small chuckle. Something that would send a shiver of fear down any soul. "I dont need anything. I just wanted to meet one of the strange creatures that is supposed to take down my husband." THe black mare snapped her fingers as a plate of cheese eggs with bacons as another plate had some blue berry pancakes. "Now, tell me about yourself John. I'm... curious about you."

My whole body involuntarily shivered at the chuckle, it seemed to have a menacing aura in itself. I composed myself but something told me that she could feel or even taste my fear. The way the mare said "About you." made me feel uneasy. I pushed the thought aside to answer her request, the way she said it felt more like a demand.

 

"I'm just a regular guy pulled into this world for some reason." I said hoping she did not know of Twilights presence but again something told me she did already.

The mare payed attention to every word he spoke. A look of interest in her cat like, blue eyes. "Hm. It seems young Twilight wasnt expecting such a thing. To be brought forth into a strange world without any knowledge of what is to come. It must be a frightening thing. But, I am utterly curious at to how you will progress."

"Before I continue, I find it very rude to not properly introduce yourself, especially when you know my name but I don't know yours." I smile testing this persons temperament without causing a reaction that would end with me dead.

 

"But anyway, back to your question, as to how I will progress, I can't rightly say, I am just a piece on the board... a wild-card to be exact, with my own goals and motivations." I continued not answering the question but yet still answering it.

"Hm. I suppose you are correct. Very well then. My name is Queen Nightmare Moon; loving wife of High King Tirek. A pleasure to meet you John." The mare gave a graceful bow in her seat. Her smile showed her sharpened teeth and a fang of hers. "To be honest, I've been curious as to how young Twilight would summon you and the other one. Stealing synthetic magic was obvious, but what she would bring forward was anyponies guess. And what a wildcard she did pull."

I looked at the now named Nightmare Moon and smiled, "Excuse me if I don't bow and call you by your title Ma'am but, those from my country have not done so in over two hundred years, and don't plan to for may centuries to come, anyways. As for how Twilight summoned us I don't understand magic in the slightest only that it is an energy of some sort, so your on your own there, and those of my race are an interesting sort. Each with their own goals, ambitions, beliefs and values. So different but yet so similar. For all their arguing, hatred, and conflicts, once they find a common goal they are a force that can do anything and change the course of history for better or worse."

 

I pause and continue pointing to Aaron, "What I mean to say is, that he and I are but two of many, a fraction of a whole. Why we ended up the targets is anyones guess, but here we are, here you and I are, and we happen to be on different sides of the fence."

 

"Also I have to say this Tirek is a big asshole if what I have seen around here is any indication." I finished with a smile hoping to see how close she was to this Tirek. Noting from what Twilight said about him that he was not one to keep others like Nightmare Moon at his side for no reason.

[Mr. Critical 434]

Nightmare gave a giggle. "Tirek may be hot tempered. But he really knows how to treat a mare. Diamonds, servants, and luxuries of all sorts." She shivered a bit and looked back to John, returning his smile. "However, he doesn't know how to make me feel like a mare." She had a pair of sultry eye on her now. "HE treats me like a trophy, nothing more. But, I find you... interesting."She vanished and was now sitting next to John. "To be touched again. To know love... I dont expect you to bow down to me, John. You are not one of my subjects. But... I do find a certain element to you... an underdog element that seems to make me want to root for your little team. Even though it is doomed to failure."

When she looked at me I shivered knowing the meaning of the look and her words. She and I knew full well she could try something right then and there and I would be powerless to stop it. It was when she reappeared and her breath on my neck and face that my body stiffened as if her gaze just silently reminded me of her power and that I was weak in a world of magic and myth, a man forced into a game that I did not know the rules, and I would lose much of my innocence in the process.

 

I looked Nightmare Moon in the eye, "I hope you find that someday, and thanks for the complement." I said the last part with a hint of sarcasm.

Nightmare went in close to John and with a surprising move, she kissed his cheek. Once done she pulled back and sighed. "As much as I would like to make this into a wet dream, your friends are waking up. If you ever want to talk again, just think of me before you go to sleep. Dreams are my domain and we can talk freely. So... time to wake up." Nightmare raised her hand and with a swift motion, slapped John on the same cheek she kissed him. Awaking him immediately. Once awake, Aaron and Twilight were awake and getting their things together. Twilight saw him awaken and smiled. "Ah, John. Good to see you awake. We're almost to the city. Its best you get ready."

"Morning to you to Twilight." my voice still groggy, and my mind still waking up. I get my knife and strap it to my belt. With that simple action I am ready and a few minutes later I fully wake up. My mind still reeling to the dream I had, from the power I felt from Nightmare I figured it was real and she did visit me in my dream.

 

I saw Aaron and Twilight were finished packing and just waiting for the train to stop.  "Once more unto the breach" I whispered knowing full well that I would not like what I saw here.

The train came to a stop a few miles from the city. The destroyed building glowed an ominous red in the distance. Aaron, Twilight and John left the train. They were the only ones who left it as they looked out to the city in the distance. "Okay guys... this is it. IF you want to turn back, now is the time to speak up. This is going to be very dangerous and I would understand if you want to leave." Aaron shook his head. "No thanks. WE came all this way and someone needs our help. I dont think turning back is an option for me."

"I have already committed to this course and I plan to see this through to the end where ever that may be." I gazed out in the distance seeing fire from a destroyed building. Standing as if it was daring us to enter. I knew this place would hold the scum of the earth, what Twilight told us earlier confirmed that, I just hoped to meet as few of them as possible.

Twilight smirked confidently. "Alright, lets get moving then." Twilight stood close to John. She was terrified a bit, but there was no way she would ever tell him that. Though, being close to him gave her some comfort. They walked for what seemed like miles. Once they were close enough, Twilight put her cloak on and told them to walk casually and not to face her. The minotaurs held their spears in a defensive manner. "Halt, who goes there?" Aaron and John stopped in front of them. "We uh... We have come to... examine your facilities. We have heard that this is a place for, shall we say, pleasurable experiences." Aaron gave a grin that was chilling to look at, even for Twilight.

I ignored Aaron's grin, and glanced around looking at where each guard was and where we could escape to. Things that this world made nessary for me to do. I managed to make it look like I was just board and I had places to be, my face devoid of any and all emotion.

 

Internally what Twilight said about this place and what she said about her friend scared me. The implications of what could happen to anyone that looks weak enough made me sick.

The minotaurs looked him over and frowned. "Fuck off. This is no placed for deformed earth ponies." Aaron reached behind him and brought out a large pouch. He opened it to show a large amount of bits. The two guards began to drool at the sight of that. "Care to rephrase that statement, friend." They took the bag and opened the door. "What I meant to say was, go right on in sirs. Enjoy your stay." Aaron gave them a friendly smile as they entered the place. "Thank you. Have a nice day." Aaron and john walked right in, Twilight sneaking in behind them. As they walked into the city, what they saw was baffling. It was... nice inside. As if it was a fusion of leave it to beaver and the Andy gryphith show. The place was clean and the grass was far greener than anything they've seen thus far. "Uh... I think we have the wrong city?" Twilight came up close to them. "It may not show it, but this is it.  can literally feel the agony eminating from this place."

As we walked through this place I noticed it looks so peaceful and bright, with kids laughing and playing, and such. It seemed too much like paradise and that made me shiver.

 

I looked at Aaron and said, "Shes right, its too peaceful, almost to the point of being stereotypical. I think this is just a cover for something worse. Let's just find our 'friend' and get out." I empathised friend.

Nodding, they all go forward on their journey. As they walk, Aaron could see something odd. There were a lot of males. As if there was no females in sight. From what Twilight spoke, that is making more and more sense. Aaron tried to look for what could contain the imprisoned girls. "Twilight, what are we looking for?" Twilight keeps up her search. "Something out of place yet inconspicuous."

I look at Twilight looking back I swear I saw more females then this, hell at times they seemed to be more common then males, "Twilight what's the male to female ratio in Equstria?"

 

I continued to look around for any place that seemed just a bit odd, hoping that was where the females would be.

The three continued on. "Well, I dont know the numbers for sure. But last I checked, males were outnumbered by females. Though, that was a year ago it could be different." Aaron  kept a look out while John and Twi talked to one another. "Back before all this happened, we used to share males. We loved each other equally. There were still disputes, but in the end it was all for breeding."

I tried to wrap my mind around the idea of a harem and imbalenced gender ratios and all that implied with gender roles. I just decided to let the issue go.

 

Shaking my head of some mental images I respond, "That is quite different for humans. Humans generally take one spouse and are with them with some exceptions, for life. At the same time the male to female ratio is practically one to one."

 

"Anyways, due to this I can assume that the building the mares are in is huge or, has a huge well ventilated basement."

"We still have marriage. Though, we believed that love was not bound by any limits. Be it same gender, species, or number of mates. However, we take marriage seriously and if one of them commits adultery, they are looked down upon and shamed. We also have a limit of how many mates of the same gender can be in one harem. A normal one would be around three women per male. Any more was considered odd." Aaron looked to them. "Hey, I think I'll split up. We can cover more ground. We can meet up at that fountain in one hour. Alright."

"Yea, that seems like a good plan, but just be careful out there guys." I stated feeling even more uneasy in this place, it was like we were being watched and not by just Nightmare Moon, but something else entirely. I set it to the side for now and split off from the group going to a brightly colored street, like the others we passed it had the way too happy adults and children, something about their smiles made my stomach churn.

 

I just walked past them not paying them any mind as I searched for anything that could house the missing Mares.
