How does Spike's fire work?

I think that all dragons were hatched by magic at the school. Maybe Celestia kept Spike's egg as a special one for Twilight.

I don't think so: Celestia didn't know Twilight before her exam.

Question is, did Spike obtain the ability to breathe the green fire after Twilight used magic to open his egg? It could make for some interesting head canon.

 

I agree though. Spike can control what type of fire he breathes, whether it is used for sending letters (green) or melting ice (orange).

Which is weird because it's a different energy reaction if the fire is green or orange.

I believe the letter transportation was the result of Celestia (and maybe Twilight) applying some scientific experiments on him.

But no one can deny, that fireball he threw at that ice cloud was EPIC.
