Anarchism

Titan Rising

There's a bit of a stigma attached to the thought of anarchism. Even for me, the first thought that comes to mind is men killing each other in the streets, cars exploding, and cities burning to the ground.

What is anarchism? I like this definition: "The belief that all existing governmental authority should be abolished and replaced by free cooperation among individuals."

Ask yourself why we need government and see what answers you can come up with. I'd assume things like... people would kill each other, people would steal from each other, people would be taken advantage of. The question I would ask you next is would you kill anyone? steal from anyone? Take advantage of anyone? Is the law of the government the only thing preventing you from doing these things?

I see all the time threads saying things like "I wish I lived in equestria" and I see other threads saying things like "I wish the world was more like Equestria", and at the same time I'm reading posts saying things like "the world can't be more like equestria" or "I wish it could but it can't". And I can't help but laugh to myself and ask why not?

The worlds created in stories and shows and video games came from the human imagination. We are the very source of these ideas, they are reflections of our thoughts, and yet you have people claiming it's impossible for the world to be like Equestria where everyone gets along.

So what's this have to do with Anarchism? Well in a perfect world I imagine no government to be necessary. Everyone loves each other and wants to help each other out (I'll let you define "help" because I really don't want to go into that right now). A world where people don't need laws to help them do what is right. A perfect world is an Anarchist society - a world where people are free and trusted by their fellow man to chase after what they think is right because they are given the benefit of the doubt. And the key words here are "trust" and "benefit of the doubt", something lacking in the very premise of any government - as any government, by definition, seeks to control the actions of it's citizens through the threat of force.

The only reason (as far as I can tell) for anyone not to have hope for an anarchist society is because they do not trust or have faith in their fellow man, and I think that is a sad way to live.

So yeah I guess that's all I've got to say on the subject for now.

Human greed will never allow such a world to exist. Anarchism is like Communism, it's great in theory but in practice it will never work to due to human weakness. Equestria is not a perfect society, there is greed and elitism just like in our world. My personal hand canon as to why it works as well it does is because ponies are natural herbivores have a herd instinct over a carnivore/omnivores pack instinct. The community is more important the individual.

I'm not sure if you are familiar with Stefan Molyneux or Ludwig Von Mesis, however the Non Aggression Principle is the core pillar of the anarcho-capitalist school of thought, which I adhere to. The NAP implies that all unnecessary and immoral aggression is inherently wrong and a violation of first principles (e.g natural rights). There is no practical way true free market anarchy can exist in our lifetime, or even our children's sadly, government indoctrination, and a worldwide case of Stockholm syndrome is going to make it a rather steep philosophical hill for those of us who want freedom. All we can do now is plant the seeds for enlightenment and permutate the message of non-aggression by applying it to our own lives, raising our children through the NAP, and living as detached from the state as practical as possible. TL;DR: Set an example.

As a former progressive democrat thought I can tell you first-hand, it is going to be a hell of a journey opening the minds of all these entitled people who simply want to wave guns around and throw debt onto miserable children for their own gains. (Looking at you public education and public sector unions)

Anyway, in a pony context, Equestria exists under what appears to be a representative monarchy, not ideal but as some of use on Google+ were musing, it could be somewhat more efficient than the constitutional republic we have in the USSA, you have the throne as the pinnacle of all problems, you have someone to blame and hold accountable assuming that is permitted.

I one day hope for a world with no government, however we will never see it; with our current society it simply cannot be done. If we were to switch overnight from established governmental regimes to anarchy it would be a disaster of unimaginable proportions.

While Anarchy is good in theory, it can't work for the simple fact that there will always be people who want to come out ahead and don't particularly care how they get there. Even if society was abolished, and with it all societal concepts of morality and whatnot, there would still be people not content with the fact that some people are doing better than they are. At least some of these people will band together and attempt to force those superior to them to step down and share what they have. Since they are weak on their own, they will form organizations, the beginnings of a new government. Shit will happen, and we'll be back where we started.

So until people no longer feel any type of greed (whether it compels them to rise above their fellow man, or to become envious of those who have), anarchy can't work.

I'm not familiar with those two people but I am aware of the non aggression principle and anarcho capitalist schools of thought. I'm also inclined not to believe any form of anarchy will exist in this lifetime, but the way I see it - as long as I'm trying to advocate it I suppose I should hope that it might

Yes I know Equestria isn't an anarchist society lol so it's probably not the best example, but what I was really trying to get at is if we can conceive of anything I believe it to be possible, and by extension grounds for trying to get there. The only thing I can tell that's stopping us is fear of each other.

Well then I'll have to live my life not being envious of others. Shouldn't be too hard as I'm not particularly envious of anyone these days and find it a waste of time to be. Who knows, maybe it'll like... enlighten someone eventually. lol
