I Love a Pony: Dispelling Ambiguity

Ziggy + Angel + Rain

Perhaps you've seen me around the forums. Most forumgoers would, of course, know me by my user name. Pega + Mister; it's very clever if you don't think about it. But perhaps I've not made a proper introduction.

Hello, my name is Siegfried.

("Hi, Siegfried.") <------ That's your part. (Some mumbling, "Is that an actual name? Is that German for Sam?")

And I'm a ponylover.

(*Gasps* of horror and surprise. While some in the back roll their eyes and reply, "This we know.")

Notice that I did not specifically identify as the dreaded and forbidden "C-word." OooooOoooh, it's very spooky though! Running and hiding are advised. (If you sense sarcasm, it's because I was being sarcastic in the last few sentences. Your sarcasometer is functioning as expected.) Not that I've anything whatsoever against those who DO identify as such. But the distinction has become somewhat significant to me.

I'm attracted to a pony. To all of her. And much more importantly: I love her. Not in the casually hyperbolic sense, "Oh, I just LOVE that [television show, video game, kind of cheese, article of clothing, diminutive canine, what have you]!" I mean I love love Rainbow Dash. In the same manner that a man would love a bipedal, human type woman. My intentions are decidedly romantic. The feelings I have are real, and that's of chief importance.

If I claimed that the fact my partner IS a pony did not matter at all to me... I would be lying. I like that she is a pony. I like that she has a blue coat and a rainbow-colored mane. That she's pointy, expressive ears situated at the top of her head. That she possesses a long, beautiful tail that she can flick at will. I can see the appeal where others might not, and I've never had any difficulty being attracted to animated, non-humans in the past. It was never "weird" until someone told me it was. And you want to know why that is?

Because it's not. It isn't weird because it also isn't fundamentally different from the entirely natural feelings that anyone else might experience. However, it has an infinite number of faces. If you're the type that goes around superficially attaching tags and labels to love, particularly the love of others... Stop it. Love isn't predictable. It isn't readily categorized or defined. It isn't just ONE thing. One person's idea of it. It isn't something universally comparable. It isn't solely what the world or this or that community embraces as being "OK." Love is not a pop song. That everyone instantly recognizes; that everyone knows how it goes.

But, it doesn't necessarily matter whether or not others understand how I feel. Or why I feel it. Much less that I'm increasingly certain that my feelings, at the heart of them, are not so different from anyone else's. What matters to me is that there be no amount of ambiguity. I might employ a bit of sarcasm or BS here and there on these forums; hopefully to the amusement of... Someone. Or in order to make a point. But know that the one thing I will never BS about is that my feelings for Rainbow Dash are there, and they are genuine. She is not a lie I tell nor a game I play.

I love a pony.

As you may love a character (and so do I) you have to realize she does not exist and there's not a girl in the world who's gonna be too much like her. In real life, people are unpredictable, you can never know exactly what a person is thinking, although in a tv show its a set reality. I know it doesn't make any sense but a real girl is better than one in a show or video game. I can't explain it all that great but when you find someone who sorta "clinks" or connects with you well you may enjoy it much more. You may run into trouble from time to time but it's worth it in the end.

At least that's what I believe. I'm not trying to make you do things or change the way you are if that's what it looks like. I'm just saying ya know, maybe give it a shot. If you find the right person you won't believe how many amazing things can happen.

I have to agree with PegaMister, although i do see some sense in your post Ryzu, love comes in many forms and many different levels of intensity, for example, someone will love their dog, or their slippers or even their favorite cereal bowl, but you have to understand that no matter what you love or how intense it is, love is only your brain producing certain chemicals in your brain to guide your body towards something it can see as highly valuable.

I understand when you say that you must realize that Dashie is something and not someone or somepony. but the reality is, it dose not matter, Pegamister can sit in his room at his computer watching MLP until he dies, but even after he dies, Rainbow Dash will live on until the show stops, the fanbase ends and the last person forgets, because the only thing we as humans can contribute to this world is our memory, we have to remember past experiences to grow and develop for the future. In the end we all will die and be forgotten and the only thing we can do until then is live as happily as we can, whether we find love in a fictional character, or have many grandchildren as we grow old, the only thing that matters is how we as individuals choose to live, PegaMister chooses to live happily on this side of the 4th wall admiring Dashie for as long as he chooses, and this is ok, why? because he is happy, that is all we as human individuals do, try to make ourselves happy.

I cant explain it, but i find myself growing a love for a certain pony as well, i choose this, it isnt weird, it isnt wrong, and just so you know as well i am open about my bronyhood but the people around me, the people i choose to love and cherish, they accept me for me even if i love a pony in a show made for little girls, and i am happy, i am happy and content with my life.

Meh.

Love is love. That's my personal philosophy. It should not be bound by social taboos or even reality. While I do think believing in the character to be real is far fetched, I don't hold it against those members of this little side-fandom that do. Also, keep in mind that is not the case with most pony lovers, anyway - we've just fallen in love with a character. It doesn't necessitate an actual belief in the character's existence. It's a bit weird and a social taboo, but limiting the mind is what holds us back as human beings and is what creates prejudice and other things of that nature. If it's not creating problems for you, then I believe it isn't anything for you to worry yourself over. Let him be happy, my man :D It's all good pour tout le monde, so to speak.

still though, just remember that there is still a world full of open doors and new experiences. It's all good to love what you love, but just remember, the world is a big place, there is much to see and do. Keep this love for Dashie at a controlled level, in this reality there are still jobs to do and bills to be payed, don't allow your feelings for her keep you from doing what needs to be done, we all have a role to play in society, whether we drive a taxi or invent cures for a disease, we still have a role to play, and if we are not playing that role, society will cast us out and find a new actor for this play we call life
