What I think of anime.
something non-controversial! Hopefully. :okiedokielokie:
I haven't been here for very long, but in my intro post I mentioned I really like anime. The reasons why are going to be covered here in this blog post. SO GET READING!!! >: )
But first a little about my history with anime.
The first anime I ever saw was an episode of sailor moon. And the scene I remember most from it was the girl being mummified in the bath... I was like, six. I haven't watched any sailor moon since then, for completely unrelated reasons, but I thought I would put it here anyway. After that I saw whatever episodes of whatever anime was airing at the time: Dragon ball, one with small robots, Yu Ghi Oh, etc. I enjoyed the fact that every episode was "To be continued", and I still like that to this day.
After that (during puberty ;3) I started watching anime on youtube. Although, I choose to watch anime that had a lot of scantily clad females. Who could blame me? The puberty was strong within me. I am not going to name them for reasons.
So those were my first experiences with anime. Some time later I started watching more anime chronologically. Starting with two of the big four, Naruto and One Piece. While I enjoyed Naruto a lot, my enthusiasm blew away by episode 200-something of shippuden. I plan to finish it eventually, but not for a while. One Piece on the other hand still peaks my interest, but as I only watch the English dub it will also take me a while to finish.
Favorite arcs are Skypia and the Forgetting Shino arc, Of One Piece and Naruto respectively.
I should point out that all the anime mentioned above were English dubs. I didn't start watching subs until Madoka Magika I think. After that my quality standard for anime went up considerably. No longer was, females-lacking-clothes, or ninjas my only criteria. In fact those criteria took a back seat. Now a good story, animation, and characters are my main criteria for choosing and liking an anime.
And then I watched Kill La Kill, which met all criteria. :3
I think this is enough about my anime history. Now it's time for what I think about anime:
- I think it has a very diverse range of story concepts (canadian wizard, I mean come on!
)
- The art style, while seemingly simple, amazing things have been done with it. (any anime)
- It is not afraid to challenge social norms. (Kill La Kill.)
- It makes me laugh. (Comic Book Artist and his Assistant)
- It makes me cry (Madoka Magika)
- It asks the hard questions. (Sunday Without God)
- It also asks the silly questions (Squid Girl)
I probably have more thoughts somewhere. I just don't know where? Maybe you readers can squeeze more out of me by asking questions *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*.
