Why I still like Pokémon
So why is it that Pokémon still appeals to me along with millions of others after like 2 decades? Because for those who never played Pokémon they see it as some kind of fad and yes Pokémon was very popular when it first came out yet after the craze wore off Pokémon is still popular to this day. Why is that?
One word: Simplicity
Pokémon is a very simple RPG, and one I can easily pick up and play sort of like a puzzle game and is accessible to play. Easy to learn but hard to master. And Pokémon has a higher replay value to me than most RPGS, for instance most RPGS, I have a hard time replaying once I beat the story, But I have an easier time replaying Pokémon. Some people don't like it because it's not very complex but I like it for that reason. I like that there is a 4 move limit, It just makes it more simple for me. And because of the simplicity it's easy to get into the competitive scene as well. It just feels natural to play for me. If Pokémon was too complex it would be a passive interest. And I like that most of the monsters are cute, because cute characters are more relatable to me than fierce highly detailed ones. There are lots of Pokémon clone games but most of them are too complex for me though I am planning on getting Youkai Watch.
This goes with the TCG, The TCG was simple enough to play for me. I have a hard time getting into Yu Gi Oh, Magic, and MLP TCG because they were too complex for me.
And that is why Pokémon still appeals to me. Sometimes simplicity is what makes a game so good.
