Losing my emotions.

Today my mother had an operation on her cancer. My step-farther told me that he would call me if anything happened. I got a call in maths which I was unable to answer and was unable to check who it was from. I assumed that my mother had died, but I didn't feel sad. I didn't care. After I left the lesson I found out the call was supposed to be a prank call. But what worried me is that I didn't care, and lately a lot of bad things have been happening around me and I just don't care... What is wrong with me?

Nothing's wrong with you. This emotional numbness--or detachment, if you will--is a common occurrence when it comes to death and dying. It's unlikely that you're "losing" your emotions; it's more likely that you're dissociating yourself from your mother to protect yourself.

Hope everything goes well for you and your mother, fellow brony.

Though I have a been like this for a long time now. I was only told about the operation four days ago. I don't think I have dissociated myself from my mother. I was told a while a go that I was going to die from arthritis and I didn't care then either. My grandfarther died two years ago and I was extremely close to him and I didn't care then and its not just death its other things. I just don't get sad anymore. I just feel empty.

I understand the feeling. I've felt with a lot of death in my life.

My brother has cancer at the moment. The most traumatic experience is still the murder of my wife though.

After my wife died I felt no remorse and Only felt Pain. I did awful things, things I'd rather not mention because I'm sure you'd all think differently of me if I said them. Lets just say I got involved in the mafia and leave it at that.

That's normal. You go into a denial and shock when you first think someone has died (especially in your case when it was more of an assumption rather than a fact). Most people claim that the death really doesn't hit them until the funeral.
