Phines and Ferb Review

The Cynical Lone Wolf

Another cartoon canceled….sigh. Well as a Whovian I do know that nothing lasts forever. The cartoon I am taking about is Phineas and Ferb.

For those who don’t know, PnF was about 2 boys celebrating summer by creating over the top inventions and their sister, Cadence, tries to bust them, but their invention disappears by the end of the day. On the other side of the show is that their pet Perry fought an evil scientist named Heniz Doofenshmirtz by stopping his evil inventions from what else... taking over the wo--I mean the Tri-State area. With that this series run for 8 years with over 200 episodes. “Wait a minute”, you might say, “ How can something that simple have that long of a lifespan?”
Well, let's find out in this is Phineas and Ferb Review. I’ll break down the Good and The Bad of the show, I say we start with.....
The Good:
PnF was full colorful characters that I remember very well if I shown a picture of a said character I know them right away and the characters are 2 1/5 dimensional characters, which is a good thing . On top of that, watching a PnF episode was great because of the comedy. Yes, the comedy was spot on and they were quick jokes and meta jokes and they were done very good. I remember this joke with Perry and Doof using a hot dog and a bratwurst as lightsabers and there was a force joke, and laugh kind of hard at it. On another note, something the show did, that rivaled MLP: FiM in a sense, was its music. Here is two I remember from on top of my head:

Again very catchy songs and there more when that came from. Another great thing, which I was going to a separate review on its TV movie (“Across the 2nd Dimension” ) ,and its only one. Yes, I know there is a Theatrical movie in the works, but it's in the pile of “cartoon movies” like Samurai Jack. Anyway, the movie shows why I like Phineas and Ferb and why I don’t like it too at the same time, which I’ll get into here in a moment. The reason is because it shown where I wanted the characters to go. We saw a dark side of Phineas, even though he’s most upbeat character of the show. It also answered that up to that point were left unanswered. The animation style was pretty good along with voice acting. As you can see, Phineas and Ferb had its perks which made it last over 200 episodes.
The Bad:
Now here are the bad parts of the show. Let’s just obvious one out of the way, every episode was practically the same
1. Phineas and Ferb invite something, Cadence wants to bust them, Perry disappears to....
2. Fight Doof, and during that fight Doof's invention causes…
3. Phineas and Ferb’s invention to disappear by the end of the day and Cadence looking stupid, when she is close to busting them.
With this formula, suffered a worse problem: Character Development. It hardly happened and if did it either had either a cop out or retcon in that same episode and it rely on “What if….?” Episodes for that development; thus slowly killed the show. Similarly, a question that bugs me that is still left unanswered: Who is Cadence and Phineas’ biological father? It was never answered and only mentioned once. Another downfall of the show is that it really did overstay its welcome. Yeah over 200 episodes and only 104 days of summer, yeah see, that is a problem. Moreover, as the show went on the showrunners and writers, begun to run out of ideas and it begun to show in the later seasons. Well that is all I have on the bad side of the show.
Overall:
In fairness, Phineas and Ferb isn’t a masterpiece by any right, at best you can say it was creative. In my opinion, I liked Phineas and Ferb….for a while. I totally get why some people loved it and why some people hated it. I am actually glad it ended mainly because it was going into the realm of likes Simpsons and SpongeBob getting boring and running out of ideas, and yes I am sad it ended as well. To those who haven’t heard of the show I recommend the video down below and deciding to watch it or not and to check out said episodes on the list:

I would advise to those interested into the show not to binge watch it because it gets boring and quick. I would suggest instead to watch “Across the 2nd Dimension”, first and it’s on Netflix and it's really good. From there, watch one episode weekly during the summer and be done with it. I would not recommend this show for people who like character development driven episodes and instead, watch the movie and be done with the series.

Overall grade: 78/100

I'm in agreement with Phineas and Ferb as while I thought the rather formulaic plot can wear a person down, but I did liked the characters and I especially loved the musics these guys do, even getting freaking Slash to guest star on their show (that's probably just as good as getting Weird Al on our show). Still, I definitely consider this one of the few genuine good shows from the mid 2000's and I'm happy to end on a rather good note and avoid becoming Disney's Spongebob as I feared it was going to be.

"Cadence". Looks like you're still used to ponies! Anyway, I always thought PnF would be a cool show to last only 1 or 2 seasons, as the repetitiveness will eventually get boring for the viewers. The show has a creative concept, but with every episode being practically the same, it gets boring after a while. I'm not too fond of the show, but I do enjoy the humor and how the side plots of an episode all connect at the end. I was always interested in finding out more about Phineas' and Candace's biological dad. I feel like that would've made a good episode. I'm also glad it ended off well. It'd be nice if the creators possibly made a new series sometime in the future.

The creators are making a new show, if you haven't heard, and it looks similar style, but new, and... I'll just let you see.... https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8ved=0ahUKEwigi5PI4uTQAhVnqFQKHfjWBGcQFgg3MAA&url=https%3A%2%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FMilo_Murphy%27s_Law&usg=AFQjCNHetaMI-1QMPR-IfyiIiofdvCEfLQ
