Math problem time!

There is a pride of 59 lions in the Appalachian Mountains. 9 of them give birth to 2 cubs each. 8 lions die the next morning while 5 more join the pride. How many lions are in the pride?

If nobody can figure out the answer, I'll post it tomorrow!

Wait...how many die? Did you mean to type "8"?If 8 die, then there are 74 lions in the pride. Also, why are there lions in the Appalachian Mountains in the first place?

5. 5 of them are in the pride; the rest are in the Appalachian Mountains.

You don't put math questions on the Internet unless they're tricky and/or badly communicated.

Except you never told us how many were in the pride to begin with ._.

So it's 5 + some unknown   :(

Just you wait. The correct answer is probaly going to make you all face palm yourself!

And Aureity, all of the lions in the Appalachian mountains are in the same pride except for those five that joined.

Probably because this is badly communicated to make whoever asked it feel clever when a bunch of people interpret it the wrong way :/

If this is communicated unambiguously and isn't some lame trick, we get 59 + (9*2) - 8 + 5 = 74

I'm guessing the trick is that the 5 lions that weren't in the pride are included in the "59 in the mountains", so that would mean only 54 were in the pride to begin with, giving us 54 + (9*2) - 8 + 5 = 69 (bow chicka wow wow).

Although, how do we know that the 9 lions who gave birth were in the pride? Up to 5 of them might not have been, giving us 54 + (X*2) - 8 + 5 where X is a number between 4 and 9 inclusive, giving us 59, 61, 63, 65, 67, or 69 lions in the pride.

If I'm right, questions like this are still stupid and immature :P

Or to demonstrate that an annoyingly large amount of the population doesn't understand Order of Operations and use this to piss off nerds >_<

Alright I'll tell you the answer.

Zero. Because there are no lions in the Appalachian Mountains! *runs away and gets my bow ready (no seriously, I own a recurve bow)*
