Can Somebody Get The Number of That Bus

Well folks I said that I would try to make 2013 a better year and I am still determined to do so but this week so far been for lack of a better word pretty crappy. Being off New Years Day wasn't too bad but after that it sort of went down the toilet.

My main issue is with my boss who for the purposes of this blog I will call Doofus. Doofus apparently dosen't seem to know how to actually write a schedule, I know after holidays hours sometimes have to be cut to make labor and there can sometimes be pressure from company higher ups. But seriously I have never worked with a manager that has cut anywhere near as much as this guy, I think he should have been a lumber jack instead of a grocery store manager if he was a pony instead of a human his cutie mark would be an axe shredding through a dollar bill.

Of course many of my fellow employees including yours truly are suffering because of this. I in particular am suffering because I am a dairy clerk but I am also a backup checker/cashier. Because for the last few days there has been practically zero checkers on duty I have been up there so much I might as well pitch a tent right in front of the store and start living there. Wednesday just about everything you could imagine could go wrong up there went wrong, I was halfway through an order when out of nowhere a customer flashes me two WIC checks. WIC for those of you that don't know is a government welfare check which is given to parents with young children to buy food, these checks are very specific on what has to be bought and each check counts as separate transactions.

And to make matters worse this customer did not speak English, so I had to call a manager to void the entire order and start over again so I could properly scan the items that pertain to each WIC check. After I got to the second check and tried to tender it it still said that the customer owed $2 and whatever cents. Something was wrong and I didn't know what so I panicked and had to call a manager AGAIN. It turns out what was wrong was 2 of the items weren't covered by the WIC program which is an understandable mistake considering that it like many government programs is alot more complicated than it should be. After that was said I was so scared that I started making stupid mistake after stupid mistake because no matter what I could not completely get out of panic mode.

Today I was in the checkstand even more than I was on Wednesday and while not as many things went wrong up there I was there for so long that my right knee gave out. I have had three knee injuries on the job and because of that I cannot physically handle as much as I used to. By time I clocked out for my lunch I was so sore that I could barely even stand up, you seriously don't know how hard it is to stand in place for 2 hours until you have done it.

Of course I only had enough time to fill the eggs before I was limping my way back to the checkstands where I spent about 75% of the rest of my shift. Of course the fun dosen't end there I checked my schedule for next week and if you include the last three days I work this week if I were to go by the schedule I will work 7 days until my next day off. To be fair to Doofus he dosen't know about my knee problems as he has been transferred to my store from another one, but he certainly will know when I have a chat with him soon when that chat will be will depend on whether or not I call in sick tomorrow on the count of I am in seriously horrible pain right now and don't know if I will be strong enough to go to handle working tomorrow.
