Reviews of "Frenemies" and "Sweet and Smoky"

First is is Frenemies. I really enjoyed the different look of this episode with the episode focusing on the villains, rather than the heroines of the series. The musical number sounded like something you'd hear from a Disney villain from the 80s and 90s. Love that they were basically forced to work together and the near/aborted heel/face turn happened. I also love the new undercurrent of a betrayal by the three against Grogar. This will make things much more interesting as we approach the end of the season and the series.

My grade: A-

Lastly is Sweet and Smoky. This was a pretty good episode. Love the dueling storylines, and the focus on the dragonlands. Love the integration of Garble into the episode's story and his new foils to his character. And of course... Fluttershy being Fluttershy to the extreme in this one. It did work very well, as the storylines played off each other well. Garble was the absolute hero in this episode, there is no denying that. And... That last 10 seconds of the episode... SOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE!:squee:

My grade: A

I loved "Frenemies"! :pinkie: One of the highlights of season 9 so far. The chemistry between the three villains is truly something!

"Sweet and Smoky" was a nice episode too, though not as good as its predecessor. As for cute moments, my favorite was this one. ^_^

The chemestry between the three is undenyable. They are so evil, yet they play off eachother well. I actually enjoyed Sweet and Smoky a bit more than Frenemies. I liked the swerve with Smolder's character and the softer side of Garble.

That was Fluttershy being too cute for her own good. :squee:

How is Frenemies worse than Sweet and Smoky?  Frenemies was a fun episode that also helped move the plot of the season along.  Sure, there were no Main 6, but they weren't needed for the episode, and the episode didn't suffer from having them absent.  Sweet and Smoky, while it did do a great job putting even more characterization on the most developed and my favorite of the Young 6, Smolder, I don't like what they did with Garble AT ALL.  It was predictable to me once it was revealed that Smolder was Garble's brother, and there have just been so many characters that treat another character like dirt for little to no reason, *Cough Cough Wallflower Blush Cough Cough* and then are handed redemption on a silver platter with no consequences.  My mom told me that I had to have the punishment because, "even though I understood what was wrong, I had to suffer consequences for my actions because they were still bad."  It's not the whole idea of redemption that throws me off, it's just the predictability of this happening because Hasbro keeps doing it and the fact that they chose Garble, who we have had about 7 and a half to 8 seasons to hate him for being such a jerk to Spike and ponies in general, and then BAM redemption.  Although, the episode itself isn't that bad, I just don't like what they did with Garble.
