My review of Pokemon Black and White

Harmonic Revelations

Me, being a fan of Pokemon when I was younger, have disliked the series ever since Gen 3. I was a fan of the first and second seasons of the Anime, but that's besides the point, I'm reviewing Black and White.

First thing I noticed when playing it is that the EXP bar does not slide up when you get experience, and it does not stand out from the background. Every Pokemon you can choose either looks stupid or like it belongs in an 80s gangster film starring Disney Cartoon animals (I'm talking to you, Snivvy), or let's not forget the water one that looks depressed.

I could not stand playing this one for very long, it's nothing like the best generation, Gen 2 (Silver is my favorite Pokemon game) and I couldn't play it for very long. I did take a look at the other Pokemon from Black and White and I can honestly say that they look incredibly stupid and generic. What ever happened to the days Pokemon was good?

To see the later parts of the game, I had my older brother play it all the way through while I watched.

Just like everything Gen 3 and beyond, the villains were corny and not at all intimidating. They are just embarrassing.

For being a game that was Pokemon AND boring enough to lose my attention, they must have worked pretty hard at making it bad. The only thing that's even good about it is that it symbolically paints PETA as villains, and since I agree that PETA are villains, it has my respect.

Since I've been told that the online play is pretty good, I'll give it two more points, because I don't do online play since I played it on an emulator.

Final score: 4/10

It isn't that bad. I think it's your nostalgia talking more then anything. For what they are, they're pretty good turn-based games.

I found them to be too slow, which was my biggest problem.

I can say that the new games are slow but, they need to have more action like the old Pokemon games.

Exactly. I also noticed that the leveling seemed WAY slower in Black and White than it did in the classics.

That's because games are supposed to be more story driven now (Said someone), due to the advancements of technology. I prefer it, honestly.

It's possible to have exciting gameplay and a good story, Halo did it, Area 51 did it, but then again, those are a different genre of game.

Plus, turn based games and long drawn out stories don't make it very exciting.

Well, it's more for people that like those things then. Since you seem to like neither, yea.

I suppose so, then again, I did play it on an emulator, so it was probably slower than it needed to be.

Well, depending on which emulator you use, it does slow down moving  a lot. Plus, one of the best things about those games in online play, and the battle subway.

Then that would do it, I got about 20 FPS at best, too.

That must be the case. I played it on the actual DS and remember battles in 5th gen to be a lot faster than in previous gens.

Anyway reading this review....just how tight are your nostalgia goggles on? I guess I'm biased since 5th gen is my favorite gen overall. I just like [most of] the Pokemon, the music, and the fact they tried to have more of a story.

One thing I will say is that it's very linear and that's not something I want in my Pokemon games. I'd say give Black 2/White 2 a shot. It has Pokemon from past gens and gives you more freedom to explore. Plus you can fight all the past gym leaders and champions including Red and Blue/Gary. Also you said in this review you liked Silver Version right? Please play HeartGold or SoulSilver. They are by far my favorite entries in the main series and great remakes of Gold and Silver.

I played it with my brother, My brother had White, I had Black. And this was BY FAR the best game. You can do this link thing and its like a game in a game. You can even go into the others person game as a Pokemon or a Trainer and bug him. It also has somewhat video chat. The sound is good and the video is good for a Dsi (thats what i played it on).

And I played and loved Pokemon Yellow, and I find this game better.

But my opinion and all.
