This is a youtube video/rant I just posted today on Autism Speaks and how they are exploiting this issue for their own gain.

As a general rule I am against donating to charities, partly because of this and partly because I feel that using your time and your money to make friends and help the people around you is a far more significant endeavor.

And by the way you're pretty good in front of a camera dude.  swanky.  I'll subscribe

Thanks, I have had quite a bit of practice and have even done some public speaking as well and if my plans to become an author succeed I will probably be doing more of that. I think that you need to be very careful which charities you donate to because there are a lot of fraudulent ones out there like Autism Speaks but that the legitimate ones should be supported.

I find this extremely saddening... I feel like society want to correct everything, even if people are HAPPY being the way they are...

If it was legit, I would donate to it the moment I saw it. Mainly because Autism can be really serious. It can ruin your life, leave you without friends and feeling bitter and hateful. I had a friend with a mild case of Autism. When I first met him, he would snap at people and sit alone. After a while of my special brand of "I'm gonna be nice, but I'm not gonna get too close to anyone" he began to warm up to me.

But what I saw of him to start with, compared to when I changed schools, he needed help. He got help from therapists and teachers. And I was the only one who gave him a break from that. I didn't treat him differently.

Some of the things needed for people with mild cases is the education of the people around them. The teachers said to be friendly to him. They told us what he had, and that he didn't like having friends, but I know if there was more education on the subject, there would have been more understanding.

Went to DL today and they had a donation for it in Build a Bear Workshop in Downtown Disney. I didn't get to do it, though.

Great video. I see you do a lot of political talk on YouTube. I'm definitely in your boat on the whole New World Order/illuminati thing.

I just lost my faith in humanity again. Strange I don't remember regaining it in the first place, so I guess it just sunk lower.

*facehoof* As an independent advocate who also is also on the Autism Spectrum (Asperger's Syndrome, diagnosed for 20 years) I can say that we live in a culture with its head still buried in the sand about certain issues (one of those being Autism) personally, I blame a generational difference since each generation of people have their own opinion on how Autism should be approached (and since the co-founders of Autism Speaks, the Wrights *whose own grandson is autistic btw* seem to be from the "Baby Boomer" generation, less is known on their end. But because they have money and access to any "expert" in their address book and call their up to either talk about coming up with a cure or to hire them on as one of their scientists, Autism Speaks spends less on helping those they claim to help but pay heavy paychecks to their staff and use money to make ridiculous ads throw huge benefit parties (Yes, Ive done research on this)

Frankly, I think charities like this are a waste of money.

Now if you'll excuse me, Rainbow Dash and I have to go make it rain over the Autism Speaks building.
