My confidence is skyrocketing, and my return to Critiquing.

Well, my good friend Samantha has been working extremely hard to get me out of my lonely shell, and become more confidence with myself.

Today, I have showed real progress.

It all started in Art today. We were packing up to leave, and I had my headphones on my head without music going yet. Well, minutes before, we had hung up our recent artwork on the board for our teacher to grade. Well, this preppy asian girl walked up to the drawings with her male preppy friend, and they began to harshly judge every drawing that wasn't theirs. Well, they got to mine and she said,

"Oh god, this one is horrible."

Well, this pissed me straight off, and it hurt a lot. Instead of just taking it, I deciding to stand up for myself. I turned my head slowly in her direction and said,

"Care to explain why?"

The guy beside her began to laugh his ass off, and backed away from the girl. Her face had turned from a happy expression to one of pure embarrassment and worry. She then stammered out,

"Well... what are those lines on your hands?"

(We had done contour drawings of our hands)

I just smiled at her and said,

"The lines that Mrs. Key (our teacher) told us to draw. The dominant lines on our hands that everyone has. Or do you not have them?"

She just stared back at me, and seemed to be growing pale. She looked back at my drawing, and nervously said,

"W-well, your drawing is good then!"

She then quickly ran away from me, and I started laughing. My Art teacher was listening the entire time, and began laughing as well. She told me I handled the situation well, and said she would talk to the class tomorrow on how to properly behave in her classroom.

I'm proud on how I am now sticking up for myself, when just a few years ago, I was afraid to even speak.

I have grown so much in fact, that I now feel ready to begin my job on critiquing once more.

I quit critiquing for the simple fact that I did not feel like I was good enough to do so. I felt inadequate, and not worthy of judging other people's artworks. But no longer!

I have been instructed on how to properly critique like a professional, and plan to make you guys proud.

So, this is the now proudly dubbed Crona The Critic saying:

It's good to be back!

Confidence is key my friend!

Good luck with whatever else you hope to improve on. I'll be here, providing my much needed moral support!

Lol if it was me, things would have escalated quickly. I don't tolerate those kinds of people very well. They don't sound like preppy people. Are you sure they were preppy? xD

You're critiques have everything, but what the artist should do next. On the rare occasion I make a full review of something I am always sure to include different exercises to help them improve their drawing.

Be prepared because I may just end up critiquing some of your critiques. lol

So.. What makes you worthy to judge other peoples artworks now?

blawgh, hate critics...

So you would be happier if everyone just made things without thinking of it, and there would be no one around to help them get better.

Because, you know, art shouldn't be good?

In my humble opinion, critics have never made anyone better at anything. ever :/

If you really wanna make someone better you should become an artist and find other artists and be like hey i bet my art is better than yours. Then they'll be like "no it isn't" and then you can make each other try harder.

All critics do is point out flaws that they think are flaws...

That is mindless competition though. Competition only leads to negative feelings.

And I beg to differ. I'm not insulting you at all, but I have had many, many people say I have helped them. Even in my signature is a prime example of someone thanking me for my critique.

Instead of just saying something is a flaw, I also say WHY I think it is, and how they could fix it next time.

I have seen plenty of people improve.

But hey, to each their own.

I'll be sure to keep my critiques away from your artwork, though :P

Competition only leads to negative feelings if you let it; when the competition becomes about winning rather than making yourself better.

I don't think all critics are bad really, only the ones that think so highly of themselves that they forget their critique is simply their own opinion. Like people who make a career out of it.

I would never make a career out of critiquing.

That would be quite silly, really.

And yes, it is my opinion. I never said I was always right. I am usually wrong!

Hollowshield. Critics are important and people learn from them ALL the time. Your solution makes me lol. You're solution would result in the challenger looking like a jack ass if he lost. On top of that a competition does not help the artist improve. Besides how would they even be able to judge the competition. Judges are critics.
