The Wii U Deserves Better Respect

I already know what next-gen system I'm getting; the Wii U. Games like New Super Mario Bros. U, Scribblenauts Unlimited, and Sonic Lost World have all contributed into making that decision. But, the Wii U right now is getting really underscored by the gaming industry as a whole. At my local Walmart, the Wii U has it's own shelf. Inside the shelf, the light is turned off inside and the glass separating you from the games is totally stained. On top of that, normal Wii games take up half of the space inside the shelf. I may be overreacting a little bit, but, for a gaming geek such as I, this is an absolute disgrace to the Wii U.

It'll get as much respect from me as I gave to the Wii... not much at all.  When Nintendo decides to make a console that doesn't revolve around motion controls, or a 'game-pad', then maybe I'll get interested. <.<

The Wii U is a system with a lot of potential but it has hardly any games for it which is why it is not getting that much respect right now. There are a few good titles coming out but Nintendo has a lot of catching up to do, and the fact that there is a lot of confusion about the Wii U due to its similar name making alot of people think it is just another version of the Wii probably dosen't help either. It is something that can be fixed with a bit of targeted advertising and releasing more games.

I have been a Nintendo fan since I first played the NES when I was 6 years old and though Nintendo has some great franchises I feel like they are banking way too much on their old franchises and not bringing in enough new ones or locking down enough 3rd party deals. Nintendo was very successful in the last generation because of the Wii's cheap price point, motion controls, family friendly reputation and expanding its customer base by appealing to casual gamers.

Nintendo had a slow start with the 3DS but has caught up with that and continued to dominate the handheld market, but has yet to really catch up on the console market which is a bit disappointing.

This video sums up my feelings on the Wii U a bit

It has it's fair share of problems, most of which are their own fault, but I hope they gain some success soon, and I applaud them for not just dropping the console and making a new one

I always found the Wii to be one of the more underappreciated consoles out there

It could use better respect from western third parties at least. There are at least a few worthwhile games coming for it soon, so I know I'll probably get one eventually, but it could really use more support yet.
