About this blog

I'll mostly just be talking about anything that interests me. And when I say that, I mean what's going on in the gaming, comic, and TV/Movie community. Mostly video games, though :3

Lindsay Lohan Sues Rockstar Games

As many of you know, this is a blog mostly centered around what's currently happening in the gaming community or my opinions that nobody could really care to see. Though, today, I'm gonna talk about a matter that just seems really stupid to me. Everyone knows about the record-breaking success of Grand Theft Auto V. However, there was one mission in particular that led me to today's Geekasm. In a certain Strangers and Freaks mission for Franklin, you're suppose to took a snapshot of a red-headed celebrity buying drugs from behind a store. Actress Lindsay Lohan saw this character in the mission and she currently thinks that it's HER in that situation. Because of this, she is suing Rockstar because she thinks that they didn't get her permission to do this. From the get-go, I think this was a huge mistake made by Ms.Lohan. Firstly, if Rockstar was using her in the game, they WOULD get her permission first. Whenever Rockstar uses something in their games that isn't under their licence, they always pay the copyright laws. Secondly, the actress in the mission didn't even look like Lindsay Lohan. The actress shown in the game had shorter hair than Lohan's. In fact, the person in that mission is actually a real actress that the character was modeled after. And, like I said, Rockstar got the actress's permission before using it. In a nutshell, this whole thing seems entirely unnecessary to me. I should know by now that if Rockstar used Lohan in their game, they would've asked her. Besides, even if they did use her, it's not like Lindsay has a chance. I mean, it's an actress and perhaps a few others against an ENTIRE CORPORATION. Who do you think would win?

Why Platforming Gaming Should be Focused on More During the Next Generation

Before going into this, I will state right off the bat that I know that some people won't agree with me. I'm just going by what I think. Platformers are my favorite video game genre, and I just feel they should be focused on a lot more during this next generation of consoles. Now, I'm gonna be really frank; I don't the like the truckload of FPS's and shooting games of the such that we get nowadays. I understand that they're the big money-makers these days, but I honestly think that there is an extreme lack of creativity and real innovation in gaming companies these days. Though, there is one genre that never fails in creativity; Platforming. It's a gaming genre that's existed since the beginning. It's likely not gonna go away. There are classic games that lots of people absolutely love like Mario Bros. 3 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Those games are platformers. Games like that can take a level and just go all-out with their imaginations on it. I think that there should be more games like this during this new generation of gaming. With the newer technology and tools we're working with nowadays, companies can make more solid modern platformers like Rayman Legends or Sonic Generations and such. I still believe that game companies still can be inventive. I think Platformer games are where they can truly express it. (Don't think that I'm biased towards other genres, though. I LOVE branching out in the gaming community.)

Nintendo and Third-Party Companies

There are three console manufacturers in the world; Microsoft, Sony, and my personal favorite, Nintendo. Though, I've noticed something; whenever a new game comes out, Microsoft and Sony always seem to get the better versions. All the while, Nintendo seems to get the short end of the stick every time. I find that very offensive. I mean, sure, Nintendo is meant to be for people of all ages and Microsoft and Sony are meant for the more mature gaming crowd. Still, that's no reason to downgrade Nintendo like that. Let's take COD Ghosts, for example. We have the PS4 and Xbone versions being superior, and we have the 360 and Wii U versions on the other side. Last time I checked, the Wii U is meant to be a next-gen console, right? Well, the game is around the lines of the 360 version, which is also downgraded compared to their PS4 and Xbone counterparts. I feel that something like this should be changed soon. The next generation of consoles are finally here, and games are gonna be coming in like wildfire with the holidays coming up. But, the PS4 and Xbox One? Nah. I'll just stick with PC and the Wii U.

Rayman Games Nowadays

Hey, guys. Sorry for the infrequent blogging. I've just kind of been busy with life, and other things going on around the forums. Plus, I think I kind of come down with something. So, I'm gonna try to keep today's entry short and sweet by explaining my feelings on the Rayman games being made today. I just need to get some sleep. So, I'll go back a few years to Rayman Origins. For those who haven't played it, Rayman Origins is a 2-D side-scrolling platformer adventure released on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and I think the Wii and 3DS, though I'm not sure. Anyways, I bought this game a couple years ago during the Christmas season. You know those gifts that you put on your Christmas list so that it just fills up space on it? Yeah, I did that for Origins a few years back. But, once I finally played it, I realized what a HUGE mistake I made by putting it on the list for that reason. I think that most of the aspects of Rayman Origins are pretty tight. The backgrounds and stages are extremely beautiful and vivid, the level design is difficult at times, but fair, the controls are by no means slippery or stiff. In fact, I think that they're just right for a platformer. I honestly think it's one of the best modern day platformers yet. Now, Rayman Legends already looks like an awesome sequel. From playing the demo, the game looks even more gorgeous and it controls about as good as the last title. Though, I won't be able to play it until Christmas, since I'm getting the Wii U (I've been told that that version is the best one out of all of them.)

GTA Online

I'm gonna be completely honest; the first time I played Grand Theft Auto, I absolutely LOATHED it. It's not that I hated playing it. I hated it because it wouldn't LOAD. I'm serious, I was on that "Searching for a session" screen for nearly half an hour. So, after that, I just gave up and decided to finish the main game before I try again. Now that I've done that, I went back to try Online last night. And, I gotta say, I've REALLY been missing out. This multiplayer is probably one of my favorites in a long while (Although, that guy in the white van can go screw himself for trying to run me over.) The game must've fixed itself over time. I mean, I can;t be the only one who experienced the same issues the first time playing it. GTA Online is an MMO, which means it's a massive multiplayer online game. In this game, you can create your own character and roam through the city of Los Santos. You can race, go on heists, the options just seem endless. You can also group up with other players and do the options I just mentioned together. You can always go on these activities alone with CPU players, but that doesn't feel as fun. I'd rather go and do these things with actual people (even though I'm not in the same room with them) That's really all I can say right now. I just started playing last night, so I've barely scratched the surface. If any of you want to meet up at some point, my gamer tag is Diamondsword83. Come play, we'll go on a heist, we'll have a race, and we'll go do some crazy stuff.

Why Comics Tell Better Stories than Video Games or TV Shows

Two of my most favorite video game franchises ever are Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man. I love the games, the TV shows (Well, some of them at least) and I collect the action figures. I love a lot of video game franchises, but I honestly think you can't go wrong with these two. However, there's also the comic books based off of these two franchises. Both are made by Archie Comics and both share pretty much the same art style. I may love the games, but honestly, I don't think they even compare to what Archie Comics brings to the table every month. If you like the games better, I won't hold that against you. I LOVE the games. I just think the comics pack in a more entertaining experience. Allow me to explain. Now, I'm going to speak for just about every comic book series out there. The world of comic books opens up a whole new world for a franchise. Since comic books are mostly read by teens and young adults nowadays, the writers and creators can push the limits of a franchise and get away with things that they couldn't get away with in games or TV shows. I'm going to take the MLP comics for example. In the show, Hasbro has a limit to what they can include in the show. The reason for this is because it has a certain audience. While it adds in more mature elements for their older crowd, it still needs to be on a level that would be appropriate for young girls. However, in the comics, IDW can go beyond the show and add in more mature elements. The reason is because it isn't trying to stay with younger girls. It doesn't really have a targeted audience. Therefore, they can add in these elements without having the fear of losing a certain group of people. Same goes for Sonic and Mega Man comics. Archie can get away with having things like Mega Man and Sonic cross-overs, evil tyrannies, killing certain characters, and other elements of the sort. Why? Because it doesn't have a pinpoint audience to target. It only has to do one thing; stay with what the franchise is about. They stick to what Sonic and Mega Man are about. IDW does the same with MLP comics. Whatever series it is, if creators just stick to what the series is centered around, they can go beyond the limits and make a story comic lovers won't soon forget.

Wisp Use in Sonic Lost World

Remember the colorful wisps from Sonic Colors (Or Colours in Canada and Europe?) If not, let me remind you. The wisps were items Sonic could grab to help his advance in the stage. These include the rocket, lazer, and drill wisps. They were the main gimmick of the game and they were pretty fun to use. Lost World brought them back, along with some new ones. However, the wisp use in Colors is infinitely better than in this. The wisps are either unresponsive, a pain in the butt to aim or steer, just plain freaking sucks, or have a combination of any of the three problems I just mentioned. One wisp, for example, is the new hawk wisp. While I find the concept of this one cool, it's very problematic. The thing takes freaking forever to actually start to steer this wisp. Even then, the first time you hit something while with the hawk wisp, it disappears, potentially having you fall down a bottomless pit. However, most of these wisps are completely optional. I don't have to use the hawk wisp if I don't want to use it. Though, I still wish that they would make better use of these guys. They were great in Sonic Colors, and it's just a shame to see them downgraded to such degrees.

Tragedy Struck Where I Live...

Me and my best friend, Super2379, live in the same area code. Yesterday, over a dozen twisters swept through, demolishing everything in their paths. One thing it demolished was Super's two cousins. When me and him met up today, he was awestruck. When he told me what happened, I felt the same way. Right now, I'm hoping for my aunt to be alive. She lived close to where the twisters struck and I hope she's okay. Though, I can't really say the same for Super's cousins. Please, show your support to my best friend, Super2379. Even if you just send him a PM saying "Sorry for your tragic loss." It'll really make his day. I can only hope I can help him through it.   Super2379's Account: http://mlpforums.com/user/19338-super2379/

Portal Problems.

Well shit. I don't know if this is happening to any of you guys, but I've been having some major issues with playing the user-generated maps in Portal 2. The same problems occur even if I start up the single player mode. These problems are also existent in the original Portal. You see, whenever I select a mode, generally, it takes me to the loading screen. Once it loads all the way, the game simply crashes. These problems didn't occur when I first played the game last weekend. I don't know whether it's a bug in the system or my graphics card or anything like that. Though I do know one thing; I'm not gonna be playing Portal for awhile. *Sniff* :'(

The Holidays Are Coming!

You know what that means? It means that the video game industry is going to be showing off their newest titles! It's one of my favorite parts of the holiday season, actually. That and spending time with family. A few games I'm looking forward to playing are Sonic Lost World, WWE 2K14 (I follow the WWE games faithfully,) Pikmin 3, and so on. I'm still torn between a Wii U and PS4. I'm simply just thinking about getting the Wii U and getting all of the other games through Steam or something. Anyways... GET HYPED :3

Starting to Play Portal

I'm gonna be completely honest, guys; until this weekend... I've never played Portal. I know that sounds crazy coming from a guy that loves video games, but I've honestly just been avoiding it. That was until Steam struck again with it's deals. Both Portal and Portal 2 were going for 6.24 US dollars as a bundle. How could I refuse? So, I ended up buying it. Now, I'm going to look to see what all the fuss is about. That's nice, Wheatly.

Torn Between Systems

We all know what's coming out before the holiday season; The Xbox One and the Playstation 4. I've already concluded that I'm not getting the Xbone, but I'm torn between the Wii U and the Playstation 4. There are so many games I want for the Wii U, such as Sonic Lost World, Super Mario 3D World, and Pikmin 3. Though, I know that there are plenty of games that're going to come, such as inFAMOUS Second Son, The Order: 1884, and others. Jeez, so much to choose from...

Things are changing on my end

Perhaps some of you have noticed my lack of entries on this blog. Believe me, guys. It's not that I forget to post. I honestly just can't find anything in the gaming community at the moment for me to talk about. The only thing that would be worth talking about right now is Mine Con. But I honestly don't care much about Minecraft to begin with. For now on, my entries are not going to come in at a consistent rate. They'll come in whenever something comes up that I want to talk about. Don't worry, I'll be sure I post frequently, though. For now, I'm going to find my next topic. Stay nerdy, my friends.

Video Games: Then and Now

Today, I was having a conversation with my good friend, Shyflutters. We were talking about video games and he asked me about what console I was getting. I said the Wii U and I named off a couple of games I wanted for the system. One of them was Splinter Cell: Blacklist. He stopped me right there and he said that the game was a shame to the series. The Splinter Cell series is centered around stealth-based gameplay, where in this game, he said that if you're caught, you can pretty much just gun your way out of it. That got me thinking; what happened to the gaming tastes of the 90's. Back in the day, games like Mario 64, Sonic Adventure, and Ocarina of Time were the games that everyone was gunning for. Not only that, but these games were also fun to play and they all held a fresh new experience. These days, most of what everyone wants is COD or Battlefield. But, there's a difference between popular games and worthwhile games. I personally don't put the ten-thousand FPS's we have nowadays in the worthwhile category. Maybe my perspective is a bit tainted with nostalgia, but, that's honestly just how I feel, guys.

Sonic Lost World: Highly Questionable Changes (After Playing the Demo)

On the same day I got Arkham Origins, I also played the demo to Sonic Lost World. I've mentioned before that I've been looking forward to this game. But, after finally playing it for the first time, I've discovered that SEGA has made some highly questionable changes that, let's just say, I'm not a fan of. First of all, Sonic's speed has been terribly butchered. You have to hold down the right trigger in order for Sonic to actually run fast. If you don't, Sonic will jog at a speed slower than that of Sonic 06. This change was probably made to help the platforming aspect, but I still find it weird that they would do something like this to the blue blur. Another issue I have is the enemy placement. The enemy placement in this game is SUPER jerkish. I'll just be running along and, all of a sudden, a badnik appears directly in front of Sonic. As a result, I have no time to react to it, I take a hit and lose my rings. That happened to me about three times throughout the course of the level. Though, that's not to say that this game is completely terrible. This game's presentation is top notch and the level design looks pretty good so far. I'll have to get the full game before I can have a solid opinion.

First Impressions: Batman Arkham Origins (Warning: SPOILERS (duh))

Yesterday, I finally got my hands on Arkham Origins. This is a game I've had my sights set on for a long time now, since July, in fact. When I finally picked this game up at my local Wal-mart, my copy was in it's entirety, complete with the Deathstroke DLC and everything. When I popped this game in, I was taken right to the action. In the past two games, there was usually a cutscene at the beginning. There's a cutscene here, too, but it's extremely short. Once it's done, Batman goes to Arkham Asylum (I'm guessing) Where he finds Black Mask. Not only that, but he also runs into Killer Croc, who you'll have to fight at the end of this first mission. After giving Killer Croc a few bashes to the skull, Batman gets some data feed from the Asylum and escapes GCPD forces. Afterwards, he returns to the batcave and imports the data to the bat computer. The data reveals that there are a total of eight assassin's hunting him down. These assassins include Bane, Deadshot, Firefly, and, yours truly, Deathstroke. At this point in the game, Batman makes it his goal to take down all eight assassins before Christmas morning. Yeah, this is already sounding like a good game. Since this is a prequel to the Arkham series, Batman is not wearing the same Batsuit from Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Instead, he's wearing the Earth One Batman suit. It'll take me a bit to get used to this suit, though, since I've grown accustomed to the Batsuit from the first two titles. Deathstroke is a pretty cool character to play as, too. Though, you can only play as him in the challenge mode. Something I'm a bit disappointed about, but it's nothing I'll lose sleep over. Will this game be good? Well, I'll leave you to find the answer to that (No, seriously, get this game. It's so much fun)

Sonic Lost World Comes Out Today!

Today is the day that Sonic Lost World comes out in North America. None of you have any idea how long I've waited for this day. I will just say right now that Sonic the Hedgehog is my favorite video game franchise out there, despite the ups and downs and all-arounds. This is one game I'm definitely getting my hands on as soon as possible. You go, Sonic :3

The Mighty No.9 Project

I guess I'm a little late on finding out about this thing. About a couple of months ago, Capcom announced one of their newest projects; Mighty No.9. This thing, I assume, is meant to help Mega Man fans find some shred of life in the Mega Man series. I mean, there hasn't been a real Mega Man game since Mega Man 9 and 10 on Xbox Live and such. I see some really big potential for this project, actually. I think it's about time for Capcom's Blue Bomber to make some form of return.

Sonic Boom: This Picture

I know this is just concept art, but when I saw this picture, my jaw almost hit the floor. As far as I'm concerned, Tails and Amy's models are okay. Although, the two models I'm concerned with are Sonic and Knuckles' models, especially Knuckles' model. Sonic seriously needs to take a comb to his quills. In fact, upon seeing the shadows, his model reminded me of Crash Bandicoot a little bit. Now, Knuckles. Knuckles is meant to be a powerhouse, I get that. But, this model doesn't sit well with me at all. Knuckles looks way too big in this, plus he doesn't have his boxing glove like gloves on. He has fingers. I shouldn't see that. Am I the only one who thinks of Crunch Bandicoot upon seeing his model?

IGN Sonic Lost World Review: Proving my Point

The Werehog Stages in Sonic Unleashed

I'm sure plenty of Sonic fans like me have played Sonic Unleashed at one point. The game is said to be the beginning of the heal from Sonic 06, and it shows. I loved Sonic's daytime stages, and I enjoyed the werehog stages... to an extent. In the first half of the game, they seemed pretty awesome to me. I liked this new approach they were taking with Sonic. Yeah, the werewolf thing is a bit of a cliche, but it's still interesting to have Sonic play like this. But, by the time I got to the second half of the game, the gimmick wore out it's welcome. Why? Well, three reasons; 1. The werehog is slow. I seriously think that the werehog's speed is that of Silver's speed in 06. If you're gonna make me play Sonic in a different style, the least you could do is make him have some sort of top speed. 2. That frigging saxophone battle theme. I wouldn't mind this theme too much if it didn't go off every six seconds of the stage. I'm not kidding, this theme goes off every time you engage in combat with enemies. Heck, it goes off even if you're just fighting ONE enemy. 3. These stages go on forever. Like I said, I thought the werehog stages were decent in the beginning. But, by the second half, they got painfully long, and all I wanted to do was go back to daytime so I could go fast again.

Mobile Gamers

There are plenty of handheld systems like the 3DS and PS Vita, but there is another breed of handheld gaming; Apple products. I play games on Apple devices from time to time, but I mostly just stick to games like Mario, Sonic, GTA, and that sort of thing. But, I know people who call themselves gamer... but mobile games on Apple products are all they play. Personally, if all someone plays is games on Apple devices, I don't consider them a gamer. Though, I know a lot of people who think otherwise. That's fine with me. That's just my thoughts.
