My School's Bullying Policy and it's Stupidness (Rant)

Okay, so after returning home from school after getting in a fight with a bully who was picking on my friend i was "disciplined" because i didn't follow the schools policy on bullying which is

If You are being bullied, go speak to a teacher about it if the teacher is busy or in a meeting to go see your year adviser and if they can't be found or are too busy go see the Deputy Principal if the DP is busy or missing go see the principal if the principal is busy or in a conference than wait and see the head teacher in charge of the subject that the bullying occurred in at no point do you harm the bully.

What would happen if you actually followed the policy?

The Teacher is too busy the year adviser can't do anything except talk to the bully the DP has always gone somewhere the Principal is doing nothing and makes students never have to talk to him the head teacher can't do anything to help except for the same thing the Year Adviser does.

So how do you get anything to happen?

You walk up to bully and you punch him in the face and beat him and his friends up and take whatever the punishment the DP decides to give you because no one cares about any problem between students.

Eh. People stick too closely to the rules these days, and things just grow too mechanical and inhumane. It sucks, but if you seriously are willing to take the punishment to stand up for your friend, then I not only applaud that, but admire it :D

It's more for legal reasons than anything, they can't "promote" the physical violence between students. But, I do like your policy more than their's.

My school brutally punished people equally when it comes to fights, regardless of whether or not you been actually bullied. A former state representative and teacher was wounded and later died in efforts to break up a fight between two students where I went. Fighting was just fighting, no matter its reasons for starting... I'm surprised your school has a anti-bullying policy.

They don't realize that the bullying is happening RIGHT THEN. Walking away to get "help" would do absolutely nothing. By the time you actually find a someone who is free to help you the situation could either be over or much, much worse. I'm happy you stood up for your friend cause many times people don't and it's really saddening.

I think it's amazing that you took up for your friend. One rule I do follow though, which is my own, is that to not throw fists unless the first punch is thrown by the one who is picking on you. The one who throws the first punch get in trouble. I dislike the school's way of handling things...you were only defending yourself and your friend, but if he didn't throw the first punch I can see why you were in trouble. School counselors and stuff are too subtle to the ones doing the bullying, and don't take much action as they should. By the time help arrive, it's either over and done with or escalated into much worse scenarios.
