Backstory

Clairvoyance was adopted as a foal by the kindly lord of Chandelier Keep - Orion, and brought up among the books and unicorn scholars that call the distant keep their home. She grew up in her isolated castle home dreaming about the world outside, longing for the day she was old enough and skilled enough to make her own way in the world.

She grew up with her feisty younger half-sister, Firey Soul, another orphan like her.

One day, Orion informed her that they were in danger at the keep and that they must all leave immediately at the dead of night.

As they travelled from the keep they were all ambushed by a motley crew of timber wolves and bad-ponies, led by an enormous earth stallion wearing a dragon-skull suit of armour. Orion, being a skilled mage, managed to hold them off long enough for Clairvoyance to escape, but was unable to save himself.

As she galloped away from the keep, her only home, now in fright for her life, she was intercepted by Firey Soul, who had seen the whole thing, and begged to come with her.

The two set off together. Thanks to their skills they managed to stay alive despite mysterious assailants who would occasionally try to capture her. They even made a bit of a name for themselves as adventurers.

However, something gnawed at Clairvoyance. She had troubled dreams of an eldritch God who revelled in pony destruction D: A bitterness that had always been part of her character began to become more pronounced, and it drove a wedge between her and the good-natured Firey Soul. Also, Orion's death weighed on her mind - partly through guilt and partly a flaw in her own character - she put his death down to his weakness and committed herself to proving her strength over lesser ponies and seizing powerful magic for herself >:3 She never fully abandoned Orion's good example and high ideals, but she began to tolerate a brutality in herself that eventually drove her towards the worst forms of criminality. She was good at using her intellect to hide her true nature from others, but could not disguise who she had become from Firey Soul. Eventually the two half-sisters parted ways.

Clairvoyance now wonders as a mercenary. Outwardly she is sparkling and kind, but a shadow follows her wherever she goes...

Clairvoyance sighs and continues combing the meadow, hoping that the bits compensate her sufficiently for the arduousness of the task. (She spends stamina to do this).
In the quiet gloom she dwells on recent events: her ambush by sentient bushes, the loss of her adventuring party and the loss of her half-sister Firey Soul.

Clarivoyance breathed heavily in her diving suit, feeling the pressure against her lungs, seeing the unnatural dark watery view and quelling the fear that came with it. She had been quiet on the water over there, ignoring the sailory banter in the mane. She had instead looked out over the city, taking it in from the water and her eyes had drifted to the hills rising over it... wondering about her home Chandelier Keep and her half sister Firey Soul.
Once they geared up she was immediately ready to submerge, despite her immediate ponyish fear of going below the waves.
Once below, to distract herself from her disquiet, she focused on her purpose. She gave an affirmatory tug on the breathing tube and set about scouring the immediate sea floor for urchins, taking care not to stray too far North, West or South of her position. If she finds some she will place them in her basket using her telekenesis.

Clairvoyance betrayed no outward acceptance but could hardly fault the rimey captain-pony's logic on that.
Eventually she responds that while her magic could readily propel herself to the surface (a bluff), she will happily act as the diver, for 40% of the urchin reward.

Clairvoyance pats her bag with its remaining 4bits, 12 silver pieces and 15 copper.
She listens to their conversation as she munches on the unappetising but filling meal. She could tell that she was going to become tired of the taste of fish :p She holds her head and horn up proudly, but doesn't use it to levitate the food - not wanting to waste its limited magic.
At the suggestion, Clairvoyance considers. Her horn did feel a little better and a task like this would be a good way to test it out, while also getting her bearings in the large city. She agrees. She would take up 'the Shop' offer later. She asks how they are dividing up the silver? If they are dividing 4 ways, she will bargain for a double share of the silver, since she is using her telekinesis and saving them the hassle of putting on the diving suits after all, but she won't insist too strongly.

Clairvoyance knew that nicker. So the place was up to no good. Why did ponies have to be so unimaginative? Timidity kept most ponies on the straight and narrow but a leader leaps over such barriers. If Firey Soul were here she could laugh at this stick in the mud. As it is, Clairvoyance nods without much response to the mare's tone and thanks her for the information.
She was hungry after her ordeal yesterday so she takes the Gull Egg breakfast - she needed the protein.
She takes her breakfast over to the seaweed farmers, and asks if she can sit with them. If they accept, she will introduce herself as a simple mare looking for work and ask them about business and general news - any unusual goings on and such.

Clairvoyance patted her travellers' bag, hoping she would be recovered before the 6 days were up. She took a little sip the grog and feels a lil tipsy and misses Firey soul... so she decides not to have any more. Instead she asked if there was anything to eat - it'd been a while. She offers the mare the grog, hoping it might warm her up
She idly read the notice, the voyeur plant caught her eye. She might take the Shop up on that while she pieced together what had happened in the woods. She'd ask the mare where to find this Shop.

Overnight Perspi would clean herself up as best she could - clean any cuts, remove any gunk/dirt from the explosion etc. Before sleeping she would check and double-check the lock on her door against intrusion. Throughout her time in the musky inn she would breathe shallowly through her nostrils and would ignore any mattress on the bed in favour of staying on the floor, imagining it to be lice-ridden. She would sleep with her back pressed against the door.
In the morning she would first approach the bar mare and after a little small talk (how's business etc), would buy a grog (sipping it gingerly) and attempt to turn the conversation towards the patrons and potential leads on her strange experience with the tree monster, "Do any adventuring types come through here?" she would begin.

Clairvoyance bid her winged companions adieu and travelled to the Inn Had she not been exhausted she would have marvelled at the buildings and bridges clustered about the broad pony rivers, sluggishly glooping through the city and out to the Tall Tale coast. Her head is held high and proud, as if she is fine - not wanting to show any weakness in case one of the many ponies trotting past her realised her weak magic-drained state and inner turmoil.
When she arrives at the inn. before pumping the local adventurers info, the bedraggled magic-drained unicorn would seek to rest her pony head on a mattress to get some sleep and restore her lost magic - if that is even possible. Only if there was something urgently happening in the inn to get her attention would she seek it before sleep.
If she is able to sleep she will check to see if the rest has restored her magic and will look for adventurey types in the inn.

Clairvoyance furrowed her ivory brow, only to wince at the pain from her drained horn. How could such beings have emerged from a normal managed forest which is in pony heartlands which ponies trot past each night - including this very pair? For that matter there were many strange things about last night - she remembers being unable to find the road when running from them! More was going on here than a standard monster attack. These ponies hadn't noticed anything unusual because nothing unusual was happening to other ponies... those beings were not lingering in this area molesting general ponies like timber wolves would - they had targeted her.
She must find out about this. There would be wizards and libraries in Van Hoover... Possibly this was something to do with the unknown persecutor who had killed her foster father Orion?
She seethes inwardly at the suggestion she was stressed, a hateful spike of prideful anger rears up in her which she can barely suppress. She tries to remember Orion's lessons and Firey's admonition. She takes a deep breath to quell the feeling and just smiles, "Quite possibly that was all it was." She replies phatically.
She will trot stoically with her companions towards Van Hoover, but here eyes still dart fearfully towards the forest.

Clairvoyance is relieved that they seem friendly and are heading in the same direction. She asks if she can travel with them and if they are happy with that will trot with them, but will keep a keen eye out on the road - eyes scanning the forest especially closely. She won't share too much of herself with these two, and won't say she is from Chandelier Keep or give her name - she will say she is called Ivory and is travelling to Van Hoover to buy supplies for her father. She will ask if they have seen anything unusual in the area - in particular, she will ask if they have seen anything like the tree monsters that attacked her.

The full moon was looming high above the fir trees shrouded in black shadows and silver light of a young spring night. The well-traveled road across the sparse woodland between Tall Tale and Vanhoover was wide and easy on the hoof. In the distance, one was just about able to discern blinking city lights among the bristly branches.
