Nightmare Moon is a black Alicorn with a tall unicorn horn and large bat wings that are indigo on their backs. She has bat-like cyan eyes with purple eyelashes and dark purple eyeshadow. She has a dark blue cosmic mane with lavender edges that is animated like an ominous fog. Her Cutie Mark is a cyan crescent moon surrounded by dark purple splotches. Her final batpony feature is her fangs, which look rather intimidating whenever she grins. She wears a light blue helmet, shoes, and a choker that dons a crescent moon similar to her Cutie Mark.
Backstory

Nightmare Moon was the outer result of all of Luna’s inner jealously and hatred towards those who ignored the night she brought. To change ponies’ perspectives, she forced the night to remain in the sky permanently. This way, ponies could be both awake and asleep during the night. That, and they would stop giving so much attention to her sun-loving sister.

Unfortunately, she was unsuccessful in her takeover the first time around. Her sister outsmarted her and used the Elements of Harmony to imprison her in the moon. For 1,000 years, she suffered in purgatory with only her vengeful thoughts to keep her company. It wasn’t until the stars created her a path that she was finally able to escape.

Contrary to the canon universe, she was much more successful her second time around. She acted on intelligence and not brutal force to get what she wanted. After imprisoning her sister in the moon—a rather fitting punishment, she had to say—she kept a close eye on a young unicorn mare. Said mare, Twilight Sparkle, displayed a vast amount of knowledge regarding the Elements when they first met. Nightmare Moon used this to her advantage, manipulating her so that she would never be able to use the Elements of Harmony against her.

Not only did the Princess overthrow Princess Celestia, she turned her prized pupil into a villain. Now,Twilight was under her influence. With her, she could ensure that the reign of the night was permanent. After all, twilight can’t exist without the night sky.

Personality

Nightmare Moon is a wicked mare full of wicked tricks. She is very precarious with her plans and will do anything to ensure that they will succeed. She enjoys manipulating and controlling others, justifying it by recounting how she felt betrayed under the sun as Princess Luna. Nightmare Moon is very authoritative and harsh, but attempts to remain calm at all times.

She is very rarely angry, but when she does get enraged, it usually means somepony offended her greatly. Nightmare Moon believes in justice, or at least, justice for herself. If she ever feels wronged, she will do whatever she needs to in order to be righted again. She makes it clear to everypony that as long as they are under her rule, they are to never challenge nor question her.

She is also quite protective and insecure about her magical abilities. Despite having the power to raise the moon and perform dozens of various incantations, she fears that one day, somepony will come along and prove themselves more powerful and more capable. As a precaution, she preaches the idea that nopony should have any significant powers in her kingdom. She keeps higher level books to herself and forces unicorns, pegasi, and earth ponies to perform only the most basic of tasks and skills.

Now that Nightmare Moon thought about it, she wondered why she never mentioned to the guards that she had chased Magnolia around the city. That would have narrowed down the search somewhat. The empress shook her head and sighed. No point in addressing that now that they were miles away from the castle.
The construction staff and Twilight finished their preparations before they submitted their ideas to the empress for one last approval. Nightmare Moon nodded and sent everypony on their way. They would take about the same amount of time to come back as the guards. That gave her plenty of time to conduct some research on her own.
It had taken a few hours for the guards and other staff to return. While they were gone, Nightmare came upon some interesting findings in the archives. She found an assortment of texts based on location, geography, and tracking, as well as a few smaller texts relating to subcategories of tracking. The most interesting concept she came upon was the development of a magical radiation tracker. If implemented correctly, it could scan across great masses of land and immediately detect unfamiliar magic. As soon as the staff returned from their duties, Nightmare planned to rest this spell.
Upon everypony’s return, Twilight and Inkwell stationed themselves in front of the empress for further instruction. Now was the time to do her testing. Unfurling the notes she had written, Nightmare glanced over them while speaking.
“I conducted research while you were out. I have a spell here that can detect a field of magical radiation that stretches across a significant amount of miles. I need you and Inkwell to perform a series of magical tasks outside. Choose whatever spell you like but do not cause anything disruptive.” she ordered.

The staff began promptly sketching the blueprints to begin their next project. Nightmare watched with a solemn gaze, keeping an eye on the progress. From what she was able to see amongst the huddle, everything was streamlined and very organized. There was nothing in particular that raised any concern.
The guards, unfortunately, were not as productive as the construction crew. They once again found no trace of Magnolia. Nightmare’s brows furrowed ever so slightly, showing disappointment without coming off as over-intimidating. She simply shook her head at the guards and encouraged them to keep looking. If they kept this up, then she may consider implementing less breaks to make up for all of the wasted time.
She turned to Twilight who had trotted to her with the blueprint. It was slightly rude of the batpony to walk up unannounced, but the empress decided to let that go for now. She scanned over the list of materials that was presented to her. It seemed like a lot of new materials needed to be gathered.
“I will send some of the staff to fetch the required materials. You shall have what you need within a matter of a couple of hours,” the empress stated. She emitted a series of clicks to alert a few staff members. “Fetch Twilight the materials she has listed her. Go swiftly and do not draw any attention to yourselves.” She held the list in her magical grasp before passing it off to a random staff member.
Nightmare listened to Twilight and Smart Planner who gave her further details concerning the supplies. The empress took the information into consideration, then teleported in a map for the selected staff to follow. She passed it on to another staff member to study. She then looked towards Twilight again and said,
“If you require more then what is listed, then it is best to update the list now so that the staff does not have to make multiple trips to Dodge Junction.”

Nightmare Moon agreed with Twilight’s suggestion as well as offered her own input.
“A mana signature and an eye scanner sound effective. If the staff can be identified in their physical forms, then we can insure that the likelihood of an imposter approaching the castle is extremely unlikely. I would also suggest implementing a system that admits certain staff into certain areas they are allowed in. I am sure you know there are some places the guards can go that, the cleaning staff for example, cannot.” she stated.
Nightmare took a moment to glance at the sketches Twilight drew up. It was a system of automatic doors that would tie into the castle’s new security. The empress nodded at them in approval. She did not offer any feedback until Smart Planner provided a more in-depth explanation of how the doors worked.
“A security system for the generators is most necessary. As soon as something goes wrong with those machines, everything will begin to shut down. The security part of your plan is considerable but I must question the use of shared power. Will you be able to maintain enough power for multiple machines and devices? I suggest you consider this possibility, as you may need a backup generator at the very least.” Nightmare suggested, her face remaining unchanged from her usual stern demeanor. She was not upset per-say, she was just trying to maintain a professional outward appearance.
The empress took in Twilight’s last ideas and pondered them thoughtfully. Constant monitoring of the castle sounded reasonable, but Twilight’s method did not seem the most efficient in Nightmare’s opinion. What would be better is if the devices the batpony mentioned had some sort of alert system implemented for whenever anything unusual entered the castle. It would also be important for the device to identify the threat so it could be properly dealt with. With these thoughts in mind, Nightmare relayed her feedback to Twilight.
“The devices would prove much more useful if they could send signals whenever something was amiss, rather than have the staff waste time looking for something that may not be there. The lockdown system sounds quite useful, however. Implement that one first before you begin work on the smaller things such as the devices. While this may be a lot of work as you said, it is necessary, so begin as soon as possible and have somepony report to me the progress.” the empress ordered. She stood and waited for work to begin before she saw everypony off.

Nightmare Moon quietly nodded in response, pleased that Twilight preferred her ideas. The empress was equipped to think about large procedural measures, as that came with being a skilled ruler, so it was truly in everypony’s best interests to take her advisories as much as possible. Of course, feedback was never ignored if it was actually useful. With this in mind, Nightmare continued to listen.
Inkwell chimed in and offered to search for the residue herself. Nightmare nodded, signaling for her to leave the room. A few moments later, she came back for a report and unfortunately had nothing to offer. The empress let out a small sigh and said,
“I expected this. However, you searched without any technology, so your results may very well change once the proper equipment is built. For now, I want you to document what you find, even if it is nothing. It is of upmost importance to keep track of all your findings.”
Nightmare Moon took a moment to sift through what was already created in the office. Most of it was just regular paperwork, but there were a few magical and technological notes as well. Focusing intently on them, she analyzed every piece of information to see if there was anything that had been missed. So far, she only gained a clearer knowledge of the machines that had already been built. It was interesting, but not very useful in current time. What mattered right now was to see how the new machine was coming alone, so Nightmare Moon briskly strode towards the archives to see how it was coming along.
The empress hovered over the blueprints, curious to see what Twilight and the guards had come up with. So far, many security features were already being implemented. An electrical system was being installed to hold the field that would detect castle staff and intruder magic. A generator was going to be built in a separate room to power the machine. Keycards were going to be created, although the empress still did not find them necessary. Keycards could be easily lost and stolen, why risk allowing those to fall in the wrong hooves?
“The machine itself looks fine, begin building as soon as possible. Just be sure to keep the generator safe and check on it regularly so it does not run out of power. My only concern is the keycards, do we really need them in the first place? They could be easily lost or stolen and it would not take an intruder long to find one and forge an identity. If you want for their to be some sort of an ID system, I suggest you create something that does not require anything tangible to be carried around.”

“A magical vacuum, you say?” the empress responded, still looking at the batmares with a disapproving stare. “Hmm, a runic barrier sounds the most promising. I have tried to lure the shadow times prior, to no avail. I believe it wants to come to us, so come it shall! I would suggest, however, to keep this machine in a place where it can not harm me. I possess a great deal of shadow magic as well, so the device could cause me harm if it goes off around me.” To emphasize her point, she morphed into her shadowy form, floated around a bit, then returned to her original state.
Nightmare then nodded to Inkwell.
“Searching for residue would be wise. If there is anything, no matter how small or faded it is, report it immediately. Leave it there so we can better track this threat.” she replied.
She looked to Twilight again and nodded to her suggestion.
“A technological system being put into place sounds like an intelligent course of action. However, I believe we can go farther than ‘key cards’. Perhaps there is a way to detect specific magic levels in the staff so that they will be recognized immediately. They will not have to do anything but step hoof in the room they wish to enter.” she said, suggesting her own method. She gave Twilight a look to suggest she better start researching the idea as soon as she can.
“With all of these ideas in place, are you clear to begin working?” the empress asked calmly, still keeping a stoic expression on her face.

Nightmare Moon stepped in quietly, making hardly a sound save for the hushed clacks of her metal shoes. She met Inkwell and Twilight Sparkle with a displeased gaze. She was not displeased at them specifically, it was just hard to hide her emotions right now with everything going on. When she was only mere hoofsteps away from them, she made her proposition.
“The threat is still very much out there,” the empress stated. “I need you two to build a machine to capture it. It is of a shadowy substance, one that is very elusive and hard to track. If there is a way to track it with the machine as well, then incorporate that mechanic in. Every possible solution to this problem you can think of, get to working on it!”
She waited with an emotionless expression for the two batmares to come up with the plans. She understood that they were not professional machine constructors, but they obviously knew very much about magic, and strange magic as well. They created the last machine successfully, so the empress had no doubt they could create another successful one.
She thought about teaching her guards a lesson after this, but she bit her tongue. No need for that now, not with a crisis at her hooves. For now, all that mattered is that they aimed to be proactive now so they wouldn’t further disappoint Nightmare.

Nightmare Moon let out the rest of her rage with a series of magical blasts. They didn’t manage to hit anything, thankfully, but they did set the empress back a few paces. It seemed no matter how far she flew, she could not reach the threat. She breathed out through her nostrils, clearly fed up but also exhausted from this wild goose chase. There had to be a better way to catch this threat, there just had to be!
They can’t hide forever! I will always find a way to get closer. There must be a tracking device or some other machine that can be built to stop this madness. Yes, of course there has to be! I shall plan to have one built immediately. she pondered to herself as she slowly made her way back towards the castle.
“Where are Twilight Sparkle and Inkwell? I need to see them both,” she requested of one of the nearby guards. “It is of an urgent matter once again, so make haste!”

Ponies around the area were running off in fear. Nightmare Moon hoped they were in fear of her, not whatever threat invaded the castle. Besides, she was the real pony to fear anyways.
As she flew around the town in a near blind rage, she missed Magnolia’s shadowy tendrils slithering through the alleyways. That would not deter the empress, however. She would search every evening for this threat if she had to, she would bring an end to this!
“Show thyself, you slithering coward! You shall gain nothing hiding in the shadows! Face me and we shall settle this! Hiding will get thee nowhere!” Nightmare shrieked in her Canterlot voice.
She continued to zip through the town, reverting to her shadow form on occasion to get around the tight corners and random civilians. Her rage had boiled over, and no matter how much she worked to keep it in, sometimes, it just had to be let out. She could not deal with this elusive threat any longer, the only way to handle this going forward was to fight it with all she had. It need only stop hiding.

Nightmare Moon gritted her teeth. She knew exactly who the guard was referring to. She couldn’t believe that that wicked mare managed to get in and steal the most precious books in the archives. Not only that, but Nightmare’s guards failed to stop her. The guards would have Tartarus to pay for this.
“I will deal with you and the others later. For now, find that mare! I did not instate you into the Royal Guard to watch you cower!” she screamed.
She made a mad dash herself towards the area she believed Magnolia to be in. She wore a menacing scowl and her eyes were so dilated that the whites of her eyes were barely visible. Her mane flowed like crashing tsunami waves, threatening to topple anything in their path.
“I’m coming for thee! Reveal thyself!” Nightmare shouted in her Canterlot voice.

Nightmare Moon’s ears twitched as she exited the office. Something was going on, but as to what it was, she could not be sure. All she knew is that she had to investigate it immediately. In order to keep herself safe, she transformed into a thin stream of indigo smoke and slithered about, locating the source of the issue.
After wandering about for a while, searching every part of the castle, she came upon the archives. She spotted one of her guards speeding off, most likely to send out an alarm. Both curious and worried, she sped towards him as he ran.
“Have you found something?” she hissed at him, more because she was whispering than because she was mad. If an intruder was nearby, then she didn’t want them to hear her.

It had been a few days after the battle with Celestia, who had lost and been banished into the sun. Twilight Sparkle was on a run. The memory reigned in her mind with a great despair, and she was a frantic mess. with some important spellbooks in her bags. She had proceeded to hide in a barn on the edge of Ponyville, hoping that would be enough to hide herself from Nightmare Moon and her loyalists. She hid, being silent. She was sure she was being followed, but she didn't know who was following her.
"Come on! Come on...please don't find me! I have to find a way out of this..." Twilight spoke mentally but heard the sounds of someone or something gathering outside of the barn. She had trotted silently down the stairs and made a break for it out the back. She heard someone in the front, so she had ran to the back into the woods at a full maximum sprint. But it was all dark, illuminated by the moonlight. She couldn't see, but still kept going and avoided trees.
RP ideas, anyone interested?

Some RP ideas have crossed my mind recently. I'll list my ideas first and then my requirements for the rp. This can either be a 1x1 or a group rp. If I am I am not interested in roleplaying with you, please don't take it personally. These ideas are ones I have done in years past and would like to re-hash or renew them under an all new roleplaying experience. You will be playing canon characters, and OCs.

1. I wake up in a cloned body of Twilight Sparkle in Equestria, more or less a self insert with the other person/people playing various canon characters of OCs. The normal Twilight would be around, and you would likely be playing her at some point.

2. Queen Chrysalis returning to Equestria, this is assuming the whole events of season 8 and season 9 never happened and Chrysalis returns on her own with a new changeling army. I would be playing Chrysalis.

3. A roleplay involving Spirits from another world (we would come up with them together), that would possess certain ponies who have a personality similar to them. When they are possessed the 'host' will be unable to stop them and could only commentate on it. This RP will involve an alternate setting in Equestria where the events of the show themselves didn't happen. Nightmare Moon was never banished, the mane 6 never got together and remain obscure with the exception of Twilight. In order to defend off of the various threats of Equestria, Celestia and Luna have embraced their 'nightmare' form. Solaria (Celestia), and Lunara (Princess Luna) are the names of the 2 sisters. Lunara looks like Nightmare Moon, while Solaria looks like Daybreaker. I would play a mix of Canon characters and OCs, while the person I am playing with would do the same.

4. Twilight Sparkle in an alternative universe had become a villain after the mane 6 were never brought together, she would have betrayed Celestia under the influence of Nightmare Moon. I would be playing Twilight Sparkle.

5. Sunset Shimmer returns to Equestria. She does not steal Twilight's crown, and rather than becoming a villain in the human world, she stays in Equestria under secrecy and amasses her own power with the aim of taking over the world. I would be playing Sunset Shimmer.

6. King Sombra returns to Equestria, this is an alternate universe taking place during his second return. His second return being that his horn was able to regenerate his body a few years after his 'defeat'. And he returns far more intelligent and calculating, having realized his mistakes with the plans. I would be playing King Sombra.

Those are my 5 ideas. Questions, comments, ideas, etc are welcome. With these, alternative lore, characters, and events in universe is also welcome. I hope to push the limits of my writing and those involved so we can all learn and become better at roleplaying.

Now as for my rules and requirements for roleplaying with me:

- No gore, torture, or overly violent, or character death scenes.
- No one line replies, at least 3-5 sentences.
- No overly powerful characters, or OCs (I can be negotiable on that).
- No humans, furry, or anthro characters (furry characters I specifically never involve roleplays as).
- Try to describe your characters emotions, thoughts, motivations, etc as best as you can.
- I will accept and deny characters or canon characters (although we can discuss).
