Fair question. xD It's slightly silly (and adorable), but I think the most common approach is to hold the hilt in the mouth. Figure ponies are pretty agile/good about that at this point.

Or somehow assume the pony can use it without fingers in a hoof. But, awell.

Still, I hope you figure it out. Again, I'm curious about what you decide.
