  1. Nope, don't think so. By official definition of filler for cartoon/anime episodes, EVERY non-finale/premiere related episode (every slice of life episode) is a filler. MLP without filler is just the premieres and finales.
  2. This is a slice of life show. There are no fillers.
  3. That's what Twilight thought as well. "The Princess of Friendship can't get jealous..." She thought that she was above jealousy, and stubbornly denied her true feelings. Eventually, after finding out what was going on, her friends assured her that jealousy is a natural thing and it's okay to feel that way sometimes. Twilight just needed to accept her feelings so that she could get over it. Plus, it's humbling and refreshing to see Twilight struggle with something relating to friendship. Just because you have a masters degree in a subject, it doesn't mean you ever stop learning about it. She may be an expert on friendship at this point, but there will still be more lessons for her to learn as time goes on.
  4. She WAS jealous. She only jumped to thinking it was a spell near the final third of the episode, just before running off to get the potion. At that point, her jealousy had stressed her to the point of making rash assumptions.
  5. Quote from Jayson Thiessen: "What I like is that he started out as a villain and now he's not a villain, but he never really changed. It's really just whether or not he's trying to hurt the ponies or take over their world. He's still the chaos character that we were introduced to; it's just that now he's not doing it for evil purposes. He's essentially the genie from Aladdin in a way, or Loki--really, any sort of trickster. He can be either negative or positive, but it doesn't change his trickster nature." I feel the same, which is probably why I could easily gloss over his enjoyment in Twilight's plight.
  6. Are you kidding me? This episode shows that his relationship with the mane six is BETTER THAN IT EVER WAS. The trio of "let's blast him back to stone!", Rarity, Applejack, and Rainbow Dash, are BONDING WITH HIM AND LAUGHING WITH HIM.
  7. It always fascinates me when I see opinions so polar opposite to my own. It intrigues me so. Not asking you to elaborate btw, just musing to myself.
  8. I think you over-thought that part while your brain was in analysis mode. That was just a simple case of "cartoon physics", which have been bendable from the beginning. Really? I personally loved this one. In fact, why would you feel like the show is losing it's magic? In my opinion, season 5 on the whole has been great to excellent so far, with the only "meh" episodes being princess spike, appleoosa's most wanted, and the one where pinkie knows.
  9. The whole point of what he went through in Twilight's Kingdom was that he realized how badly he messed up by betraying everyone, and he then offered the medallion (the final key) as a sign of their "true friendship". They even gave him a group hug at the end of the episode. If the show went straight back to everyone distrusting him, it would be a retcon of the season 4 finale and discord's development, which would be bad. This episode perfectly demonstrated that the ponies are finally mingling with Discord and getting used to him, no doubt helped by their strengthened bond after that finale. His trolling isn't gone either, as seen by the glee he took in messing with Twilight's head.
  10. My full review, explaining why I loved this episode. http://thebeardedreviewer.com/friendship-is-magic-s5e22-what-about-discord
  11. I think that giving Button a big role would be risky. Just like how they kept Vinyl silent because they can't have Nowacking, I'm sure they wouldn't give Button a voice that wasn't ShadyVox.
  12. This combination just had to be done, especially because of the bacon hair.
  13. They tried to make a subtle confirmation in Apple Family Reunion, so most of us have known all along. But yes, it was very touching and feelsy that Applejack said it out loud.
  14. To me, no episode could have done it better than this one. They used their talent on the pony who truly needed it, and helped her break free from her mean ways. By liberating Diamond Tiara, and deciding to the same for other ponies, their talent and destiny was fully realized, and the marks appeared. It was fitting, it was poetic, it was perfect. Repetitive? You mean "let's try yet another random activity to get our cutie marks" that's been happening for 5 seasons? To me, this is a change like Princess Twilight. It's closing one door, but opening many others for going forward.
  15. This week's mini PMV. Diamond Tiara's struggle summed up by Freddy Mercury.
  16. Spoiled Rich...wow, what a bitch she was. She publicly called her kid's classmates "lowlives" loudly and matter-of-factly, which for a kids show was very extreme of her. Even Diamond Tiara, a pony known for putting others down, thought that her mother was being hurtful. To me, that said a lot right there. Seeing that Diamond Tiara was a product of her upbringing, and that she wanted to change, I instantly forgave her and joined the CMC in feeling sympathetic. I've seen enough of the trope to just accept it, roll with it and see where it goes, rather than get hung up on the cop out. The music was on point, the chase scene especially. The "stop!" "wait!" "listen!" thing gave me eargasm. That was some really nice switch up of the vocals. I was also pleased that they addressed the seemingly pointless crown cutie mark, and showed that even DT herself didn't know what it meant. That was super cool. I imagine that she bossed someone around while wearing a dress, and didn't realize that a cutie mark appeared until she undressed at home. She wouldn't be able to make the correlation. And wow, the CMC's "special talent" blew my mind, and it adds a new context to what happened in Appleoosa's Most Wanted. Helping others figure out their true selves and destinies is a wonderful thing to be good at, and I'm so proud of them. It also adds new context to The Cutie Mark Chronicles. The mane six, through the CMC, learned something special about their own cutie mark origins. Looking back, that's become pretty damn symbolic.
  17. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I felt a split second of worry when Twilight was defeated. The animation reminded me of the "death by disintegration" seen in DBZ. Of course, they were never actually going to kill off the poor dear, but for someone like me who watched anime like DBZ when he was young, such a moment automatically makes me think "imminent death" XD
  18. This episode gave me flashbacks to Mrs Doubtfire, and that's a good thing. RIP Robin Williams. This week's mini PMV:

  20. Unique in what way? Different coloration? Because we've seen that before.
  21. Let's take a moment to consider something. To get so much of Rainbow's hair without her noticing, Wind Rider must have sneaked into her sleeping quarters and cut the hair off while she slept. I don't know about you, but I'd say that sneaking into a mare's room and cutting her hair sounds pretty darn creepy.
  22. Loved the episode, and really enjoyed putting together this week's mini PMV. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoFrpUeilZk
