Yesterday a person dear to me from forums told me of how a lot of people consider gen 4 as the best generation still. If I was honest - it was a relief to hear. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed gen 5 movie a lot and visuals were gorgeous, given it is 3D animation. But certain... magic... isn't really there for me. It feels more like watching a high quality fanfic than a continuation of the story (and trust me, it is still a sincere compliment).
I kept it mostly to myself, because I just don't like being negative and I still was more than happy to watch and enjoy it. But I suppose I simply wanted to say I am glad that gen 5 didn't lead gen 4 losing its charm and popularity as after all that is the generation which shaped most of us and put us together in this place.
I am glad it is year 2022 and I can still enjoy gen 4 ponies as if it's my first time ever watching them ;-;

The movie is good, I get some Ori And The Blind Forest vibes from the visual style, colors are wonderful, animation is fun to watch, voice acting is also high quality work. But as stated in my status - it simply feels like a very well written fanfic, not an integral part of that world D:

@Astral SoulGen 4 seems to be more... relaxed for lack of better words. Like, when I watch gen 4 I have genuine fun, but I also feel like I am on a vacation in Ponyville, literally. I love message being sent by gen 4 and I also feel like characters from it are generally more relatable as they all cover a specific spectrum of personalities.
With that being said I also cannot speak for everyone as I am certain many people can say they relate a lot to new characters and I am more than happy than they do!
*hugs*

@Vibrant Orb Yeah, it's just not the same anymore, to put it simply. Actually I feel something similar towards the later seasons of FiM, things changed too much there. I definitely enjoyed the first four~five seasons the most, for the simplicity and like you've mentioned - the feeling as if you were on vacations there, just carelessly enjoying the time spent there as if I was a kid again.
