      Positions of authority are always harder to approach... just look at high school prefects... or maybe that was just a South Africa thing...

      It really depends on where you are. I worked for a public school district a few years back and I had a rapport with the students unlike many others working there. I'm sure my age and exact position helped matters though. A 19 year-old sysadmin being more approachable to middle schoolers than 30 and 40-something teachers kind of makes sense.
